The other PC has a mouse mat on it but that has an optical mouse. I could not tell you the last time I used a mouse and mat at the same time. Why? It provides a soft cushion for the wrist when relaxed between mousing around. Also the added height may make a comfort difference. Laser mouse on my home PC, don't know what at work but it works better without mousepad. Most of the time I use my laptop when I'm being a couch potato, and I move my wireless mouse over my trousers or my fleece blanket and that works very well 8) I don’t use a mousepad. Mouse pad would add a bit to the weight that I have to carry around, slow down my packing-unpacking process by another half a second, and occupy a little extra of table space, without adding much benefits to my routine productivity.
