I have an MX Laser mouse and have had since god knows when. The other PC has a mouse mat on it but that has an optical mouse. I could not tell you the last time I used a mouse and mat at the same time.

Yes i use mousepads. I still have 2 old mouses with balls (no hard thoughts here) and 2 other laser one’s and both have their mousepads. On the laptop i don’t usually carry any mousepad …

I have actually used those before (I have one tucked away in my drawer actually). Never really thought about using it as a “stress ball” though.

I’m in the habit of using a mousepad and after reading this article tried it for a day without, and restored the pad. Why? It provides a soft cushion for the wrist when relaxed between mousing around. Also the added height may make a comfort difference.

I don’t use a mousepad. Laser mouse on my home PC, don’t know what at work but it works better without mousepad. Most of the time I use my laptop when I’m being a couch potato, and I move my wireless mouse over my trousers or my fleece blanket and that works very well

Yep I am with Michele, I am spoiled to the wrist support from my Belkin mousepad. Mousing on the desk for me (just tried it) is a ‘bit too loud too even with the laser/wireless experience.

I don’t use a mouse pad for some time now. I’m working on a laptop with an optical mouse attached, and I usually work in one of two locations – either my home, or at the office, both of which have excellent wooden tables. Mouse pad would add a bit to the weight that I have to carry around, slow down my packing-unpacking process by another half a second, and occupy a little extra of table space, without adding much benefits to my routine productivity. So, off it goes.

I use different devices on different computers. The 3M Ergonomic Mouse Ball model needs a roughened surface – I use a 3M Precision Mousing Surface. Both Microsoft Optical Mouse for notebooks and Microsoft Optical Mouse Explorer are laser but if you use them on a featureless table surface, they lose their coordinates – I variously use a plain fabric mat costing AUD 1.00 and a glossy mat with lots of grid lines.
