On Tuesday we offered some helpful tips on ways to keep your desktop clean. For some of you, a cluttered desktop is never an issue, but for others of you, your desktop is filled to the brim with files, folders, and icons. When your desktop begins to look something like what’s pictured below, it can take some time to find what you’re looking for.
In our new poll, we’re wondering how clean you keep your desktop. Is it immaculate with nothing but the Recycle Bin? Or is it filthy and full of icons, folders, and documents randomly placed all over the place? Vote in the right side-bar!

I got My Documents, My Computer and the Recycle Bin on my desktop and that’s it.
Mine is pretty clean, because when I’m working on a project – the desktop is where I work. Then I shove everything when I’m done and stick it in my “Documents” folder. Now that is where the real clutter lives.
I have recycle bin, my 2 firefox profiles, pidgin, and foobar on my desktop. I don’t really even need foobar or pidgin since I usually open them with Launchy anyways….but whatever. It’s clean enough for me.
A clean desktop is a sign of a clean soul. I just made that up, so if it ends up being brilliant I take full credit.
Seriously though, I am a little anal retentive about having a clean desktop. The day I was able to not show icons was the day I stopped having icons.
Posted this on another topic (keeping your desktop clean) but thought I’d repost here… I really like a very clean feeling to my desktop.

The two application launchers are actually hidden most of the time, so all I see is my picture and my Widgets.
I never show icons on my desktop, ever… for windows, mac or linux.
I have no icons on my desktop. Just the Windows Vista sidebar. I use Object dock for recycle bin, my documents etc etc.
Currently, I have 141 icon on my desktop at work and slightly more at home. This I called “clean desktop” On my old job I collected at least double items. Then I left company
My desktop is clean. I like it with a beautiful picture, just a few icons, and my desktop calendar.
On mine I have:
Tavis (My Documents folder – running Vista Business)
Computer
Network
IE
Control Panel
Recycle Bin
Games and Applications (custom created folder for all of my shortcuts for apps)
a jpg scan of a receipt
a text file of IRC channels I connect to
and a behind the scenes AVI video for BioShock
I’m a heavy computer user and I work on them along with servers/networks everyday.
I hate desktop icons of any sort, they are all gone–nothing on there but a pretty wallpaper. I will admit, I used to have icons and folders everywhere, but once I got rid of everything I realized just how much I liked not having to look at them.
My desktop along with my IE favourites and feeds are a work in progress and probably allways will be.
Okay, that’s just insane! I think my heart would stop at that point.
Personally I have 5 icons on my desktop right now all of which are installers for programs I’ve recently added and I’m waiting to “file” away. I have a tendency to hold out for a week or two until I decide whether I want to keep the program, and if I do I put it in my “downloads” folder located in my documents.
I just have 2 network shortcuts to allow me to easily connect to my FTP servers. I like to keep my Ubuntu desktop clean so I can admire the theme
I only keep the recycle bin on the desktop. Everything else is organized into tabs in ObjectDock Plus.
I have a few icons on my desktop, mostly icons that my job requires me to look like I am using. And a couple of sticky notes. My desktop would be horrendously cluttered, except I prefer to use the Quick Launch bar, and have cluttered that up instead…
I have no fewer than 191 icons on my desktop. Ouch!
