Another advantage of using a VCR is that you can take the tape to another location and watch it. I tape shows at home and take them to work to watch. With a DVD you have to write protect the disc to watch it on another DVD and then you can’t re-wright over it. I like to watch my shows on a TV screen and not a computer screen also, so those websites that lets you watch programs over the net isn’t good for me.

I have a Windows Media Center PC setup and a Replay TV that will both record shows I want to watch. So I’m 100% a DVR person. After you begin using a DVR it is hard to imagine sticking a tape in and needing to rewind it. It quickly becomes one of those things you take for granted, and it’s especially nice that I can schedule shows to record even when I’m away from my computer.

I don’t watch any TV other than certain sporting events that I care about…and when those do come on, I make the time to watch them, or I just move on with my life.

So no taping for me.

Never really thought I would need a DVR, until I started my new job this past summer and discovered trying to find a stand-alone VCR was nearly impossible. Now I cain’t imagine not having a DVR. Everything is available from the touch of a button, no hunting for a disc or a tape (especially for longer programs). Even better no complicated programing, just go thru the interactive program guide and select what I want to record.

I’m cheap. Instead of getting a DVR for a couple hundred bucks, not to mention monthly use fees; I got a VHS tape from the 99cent store. It may not be fancy, but I can record up to 6hrs EP (lesser quality than SP) and then just rewind and record over

I do not have a vcr or tivo or dvr, unfortunately as I used to have dvr and miss it.

However, I am able to get electronic copies to watch.

also another huge benefit of VCR is that you failed to mention is that you will always been able to play back the content given that the Tape is properly maintained, but with DVD-R Recorders if there’s a glitch the whole recording is worthless but with glitches in VCRs you just fast forward over the bad part in and continue but you can’t do that with DVD-Rs.
