If you find yourself sitting in front of the computer for hours on end during a days time, a nice LCD monitor can really make a difference. Compared to conventional CRT monitors, flat screens are sharper, and thus a little easier on the eyes. Over the last several years, the prices have come down as well which means it doesn’t take long to save up for one.
A few weeks ago at work I was asked to order several LCD monitors to replace old CRT monitors. It was when I went to remove the old monitors that I was reminded of yet another benefit of the LCD monitors — size! CRT’s are simply heavy, and take up valuable space on a desk. I had several people tell me how nice it was to have so much more desk space available to them.
Because LCD’s take up less space, more people and businesses are inclined to set-up multiple monitors for one computer. When Ryan and I worked from home, we both had a multiple monitor set-up, just because it was nice to have the extra screen space.
New Poll: Tell Us About Your Monitor(s)
Today we want you to tell us about your monitor(s), and we’ll be polling you about three different things. They are:
- Is your monitor an LCD or an old CRT?
- What size is your monitor?
- How many monitors do you have per computer?
Please choose all answers that apply. You may vote below if you have Flash enabled, or vote in the side-bar to your right.
Previous Poll Wrap-Up
It looks like Google has some work ahead of them if they want people to use Google Chrome as their primary browser. In our last poll we asked what you thought of Google Chrome. According to our poll, 45% of you like Google’s first attempt at a browser, but haven’t made Google Chrome your primary browser. Another good chunk, 20% of you, haven’t even tried it!

I have a bulky hp pavilion mx704 CRT 17-inch monitor. The color quality is good, but is behaving erratically lately. Will replace it next December with a HP w1907 19-inch Widescreen flat panel LCD monitor. The price tag is $219.99 which is somewhat reasonable.
The old monitor will be trashed. It served its useful life.
Use a 22″ Dell at work and a 24″ Dell at home.
I voted with the 24″.
Been looking at something bigger but the 30″ monitors are too expensive and the HDTV’s can’t beat LCD’s in resolution or lag.
Work: Dell laptop with 15.4″ screen, paired with 19″ Dell LCD
Home: 24″ Dell LCD, paired with 19″ Dell LCD
Work: 20″ Dell LCD with 17″ SyncMaster(?) LCD – Dual monitors is the way to go if you can.
Home: 24″ iMac
Work: 25.5″ NEC LCD (IPS)
Home: 21″ Samsung LCD (PVA, thinking about upgrading to a 24″ iMac or LED CinemaDisplay – both IPS)
Work: A 19″ and 15″ Dell monitors
Home: Just have my 15″ laptop monitor
I used to use a 24″ Dell monitor at home, but have since turned that into a TV. I just don’t use my computer at home as much anymore.
At Work 24″ Dell next to a 22″ Dell connected to a PC and a lappie with a 13″ backlet LED.
Home have a 22″ lcd and a htpc projecting onto a 100″ screen
99% of the time- Dell Inspiron with a 15.4″ screen.
99% using laptop around 36cm diagonal screen.
Home: 19″ LCD and old 15″ CRT.
I know, it sucks. Wish can have the bigger 22 or 24″
And one more thing, I missed the previous poll on the browser. I have both chrome and firefox. I like the chrome but it slack in the extension and on some website/blog, a few command or something, missing or invalid command.
So I like it but not primary browser
Owner of a CRT Samsung 19″ 959NF. One of the greatest and highest CRT rated monitors of Samsung. Though in the last couple of years, the tube began to become real black and it’s literally duying. I have no idea if this is intended but it sucks.
Using single monitor on my computer. Though I have my Sharp AQUOS connected DVI-to-HDMI for watching movies.
Planning on replacing the CRT with a 22″ Samsung 2232/2233BW.
Dual Dell 30″ (2560×1600 each = 8MP!). Great amount of screen area, but pump out a noticeable amount of heat from the back-lights.
I got myself a HP 19″ Widescreen about 7 months ago and I love it. At work it’s two Mitsubishi 19″ CRT (need it as I do web programming), and in CS labs we have 17″ LCD (Dell).
Apple 30″ cinema display @ home
Dell 24″ LCD @ work (forgot model #)
I got an Acer 19″ widescreen LCD as a Christmas present for myself last year. I don’t know how I lived with a CRT for so long. I could never go back. Now when I use a CRT at a friend’s or at the library my eyes start hurting after five minutes!
you forgot about lcd tv that are use with windows media center 32 inch and bigger
i have a 22 inch aoc and a 32 inch aoc lcd tv
the % is all messed up because this should be 3 separate votes.
We’ll go ahead and manually calculate the percentages when we wrap up the poll.
Just curious…doesn’t your analytics software tell you monitor size?
Tells us screen resolutions, not screen size.
