There have been several sites reporting the Office 2007 trial to be a phishing site, so you may want to change your password if you entered it into the login. The URL pointed to Commerce5.com which I thought I have seen before. I’m pretty sure it is just a mockup of the site that is being created for Microsoft. Here is what the URL was but be careful:

Office 2007 Microsoft is preparing Office 2007 trials to be released to the public for all of their popular applications. Programs that will be available are the standard ones like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint along with some others like Visio, OneNote, Publisher, and Project. Each trial edition will be valid for 60-days after the installation period these aren’t expected to be made available for download until December 1st, which is when businesses will be able to start using Office 2007.

The new compatibility pack for people who aren’t using Office 2007 is also available. If you install this package then you will be able to use the new, and very efficient, file formats that the Office 2007 products have to offer.

By installing the Compatibility Pack in addition to Microsoft Office 2000, Office XP, or Office 2003, you will be able open, edit, and save files using the file formats new to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007. The Compatibility Pack can also be used in conjunction with the Microsoft Office Word Viewer 2003, Excel Viewer 2003, and PowerPoint Viewer 2003 to view files saved in these new formats. For more information about the Compatibility Pack, see Knowledge Base article 923505.

The new file format is truly amazing because I have noticed up to a 75% reduction in file sizes! Microsoft obviously did something right when they designed the new format so I highly recommend it to everyone, even those people who aren’t using Office 2007.
