Best feature of opera is turbo AND turning off images while browsing. Now add a button to your tool bar so you can show them when you need or right click over an image to show it.

Together these cut your browsing traffic by >10x, increase your speed by >10x and cut your costs by >10x.

Best solution I ever found when when I was in Kenya.

hey .. i had a slow connection before .. but now opera turbo sped up things for me
i have a download speed of average 60kb/s and with opera save me time ..

After reading about Opera Turbo I was eager to play with it even though I have a fast connection. So far from what I can tell, it’s a little slower when enabled on a fast connection but not by much. Pixelation is not bad. One would have to be anal on video quality to complain. Tomorrow I will test it at my mothers house since she has a slower DSL connection. Could do nothing but good for opera mini.

I just finished speeding up my sisters dial-up browsing by turning opera turbo OFF. What gave me the idea was I noticed my phone (running opera 10) started crawling on the web a few weeks ago. Turning off opera turbo sped everything up dramatically.

My sisters typically gets a 14400 to 28000 type connection, so to slow that down things have to be pretty bad. Are the servers getting overloaded now?

it is really good to use for who have slow connection, it speed up to 5x than what you have speed before.

If you have a high-speed connection Opera turbo is more likely to slow it down, but you do save a bit of bandwidth. Nice to have that option.

From my experience it speeds up 56k by 3x.

Google web accelerator used caching instead of compression.
Onspeed ( [onspeed.com] ) also provides a similar service. It has better compression algo than Opera (and supports Flash). But, its not free.

There is definitely a privacy argument since all requests are going through Opera’s servers, but that’s why their desktop browser is nice. You can turn the feature on when browsing sites you don’t care about, and turn it off when you’re doing things that you don’t want going through their servers.

I remember using Google Web Accelerator, but I think this does a much better job. And I don’t believe it actually compressed images… I think it was mostly text compression that it was using to try and shave off time.

I think this is a fantastic option, especially when using GPRS in a less developed country.

However, the whole proxy issue may lead to privacy concerns, which is why I only use Turbo (or Opera Mini) when accessing static info.
