I fondly remember the moments as a kid that I spent playing with Microsoft Paint. I mean how could you not love the simulated spray can? Plus Microsoft Paint even received a nice UI overhaul in Windows 7 complete with an Office-style ribbon interface. All Mac computers for as long as I can remember have been lacking something similar that stresses the simplicity and entertainment using a program like that can bring to kids and adults alike. A free Mac app called Paintbrush can fill that void.
Paintbrush is an open source app that hasn’t been updated in a few years, but I played around with it for a bit on OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion and didn’t run into a single issue. So even though it hasn’t received updates since 2010 I’d still say that it was left in a very polished and entertaining state.
There is no doubt that kids these days love games like Angry Birds, but I’m sure an app like this would keep them busy for a little while and bring out some of their creativity. The interface is actually a lot better, in my opinion, than Microsoft Paint so if you’re looking for a Mac version of it I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
