There’s a PS3 shortage? Where? According to Reuters, Sony says that they’re dealing with the shortages of the Playstation 3, and they expect the situation to be resolved by May
Jack Tretton, Chief Executive of Sony Computer Entertainment America says:
April or May is when we feel like we’re going to catch up to the demand and have the product fully in stock across North America and stay there.”
Does he know something that we don’t? Every store that I’ve been in has had at least 2, but usually many more PS3’s sitting on the shelves. And they aren’t going anywhere. Wal-Mart, Target, Best Buy, you name it, they all have the consoles in stock. The shortage appears to lie in the customers who aren’t willing to pay the kind of money that Sony is charging for the system.
Another favorite quote from Tretton:
Our goal is to fill shelves across the United States. Our goal is not to have empty shelves, it’s to have full shelves. If we have empty shelves, that’s one less consumer who could have bought a Playstation 3.”
I think they’ve already achieved that goal, at least the part of full shelves :) Sure the Playstation 3 has the great graphics among other things, but at the price of $500 or $600, it looks like consumers will take the Nintendo Wii with their unique take on a controller over the PS3 graphics.

And speaking of Wii, Gizmodo pointed out a way to get yourself into shape with Wii Weights. Just attach them to your wrists and you’re well on your way to sculpted arms, just from playing your favorite sports games. In all reality, someone just took a typical wrist weight and Photoshopped the Wii logo on there, but hey, it’s an idea!

Well my local Best Buy has more than 2 PS3 in stock and had no Wii. I don’t see the shortage that Sony is referring to.
Maybe they’re just trying to make the situation sound better than it is. If they say that they can’t keep them in stock then maybe more people will still want them.
There might not be a shortage in the US, but you can’t find a PS3 anywhere is Canada. The local Sony Store has seen two sits Christmas.
Interesting… so apparently Sony shipped fewer to Canada? They ought to take some of the surplus in the States on up to Canada. They’re just sitting on the shelves here.
PS3 reached a million faster than the 360. i don’t see why people are tagging it a failure. maybe it’s because Ryan is a big microsoft fan.
I don’t think people are tagging it as a failure. But, they’re definitely not flying off the shelves like Sony probably expected that they would. Initially, yes they did… but if you go to any store in the U.S. you’ll see plenty of them stocked. I don’t think they took off quite like Sony was hoping. Does that mean it’s a failure? Probably not.
Wow, I would think that the Sony store would be the one to be able to keep it in stock the most since that would be the most beneficial for them.
Oh no, I am also a fan of Sony. I owned a Playstation 1 and loved it, then an Xbox and loved that as well, and now I’m hoping to get a Wii. I’ll never be a huge fan of one particular company because I think the several have their own benefits. Heck, I’m even tempted to get a Mac just because I think it does some really good stuff as well.
And now Nintendo will make a fortune!
I still think that if you aren’t in shape enough to play Wii, you need to get out more. Wrist weights are only making the whole situation worse.
At least people get some exercise this way
