I just came across a Firefox extension that is one of the coolest I’ve seen in quite awhile. It’s called Tab Scope and it brings real-time tab previews to the Firefox browser. Well, it’s actually a step beyond just a preview because you can fully interact with the page (click links, scroll, etc…).
After using this for just 10-minutes I feel that it has made me more productive, and I now consider it to be a must-have extension. Here are the features that Tab Scope brings to the table:
- Real-time tab previews of the page contents — you can watch the page load right from the preview!
- Navigate (Back/Forward/Reload/Stop) directly through the tab preview
- Scroll pages or frames in preview with mouse wheel
- Use the magnifying glass to enlarge the tab preview for easier navigation
- Click links or buttons directly in preview
In the options you can configure things such as the size for the tab preview for both before and after you click the magnifying glass. Depending on the preview size that you choose this can drastically keep you from switching back and forth between tabs! Throw on the ReloadEvery extension and you’ve got a killer combination!

I got really happy about this then..
“NOTE: Tab Scope doesn’t work normally on Mac OS X.”
Sweet extension, I use something similar ([ted.mielczarek.org]).
Oh this is built into Mozilla Seamonkey, and Opera BTW.
Oh great another extension for me to play with and write-up today (although I likley won’t post it until next week). At this rate I am not going to get any of the projects done this weekend. Well, I do have about 48 hours before I have to go back to work.
This is a pretty old extension, I’m surprised this is the first time some of you guys have seen it.
Either way, I don’t like that feature in Opera, I won’t like it in Firefox.
I did see that, and thought that was kinda weird. I don’t know what they’re using that would make this not work on Mac.
There is nothing like this built into a browser unfortunately. This extension goes above and beyond by offering fully-interactive live previews of the site. Opera’s are just static and only appear once the page has loaded.
Sorry.
Really? I think that feature is pretty cool, and quite useful. Just like the Taskbar previews in Vista.
Another Firefox tab preview extension that allows you to scroll and click links on the preview is the recently updated Tab Catalog extension.

This reminds me on tiling of pages / tabs in Opera, which is not a pop up solution but you can do everything with even thumbnail size pages as you can do with every webpage. To try it be sure to have enough tabs open (not minimized), right click on any tab and select “Arrange” and something with tiling.
I’m not sure if I knew that Tab Catalog offered a similar feature. That must be new.
The tiling and cascade feature in Opera are two great reasons why I love the browser. Unfortunately it’s not quite as quick as being able to hover over a tab and control it.
