When I’m using Firefox with a few dozen tabs open it is normally above 500MB of memory as well. This isn’t an unknown occurance, and hasn’t even been fixed in Firefox 2. You’re right that they need to focus on performance more.

Well, I have a gig of ram too but Firefox 1.5.0.12 is currently hogging 455M of that. Yeah, I have 2 windows open with 15 tabs in one and 30 in the other but that still blows. I hated going to FF 1.5 from 1.0 series and I’m still running 1.5 because I didn’t like the 2.0 series. Its becoming increaingly obvious that open source is not a solution to needless bloatware. Too many fingers in the pie gives us too much worthless crome and an incessant need to rearrange the furniture. Every new version is an entirely new (and dumber) design for the Properties dialog (oh wait – no, its the options dialog this time).

Oh! very disappointing, I have to quit using firefox / seamonkey because they use so much more memory (adverage at least 4 times) than IE did and never releases.

Is Mozilla so broken inside already? just dying like good old Netscape as we saw it.

So we lost the browser battle to Bill AGAIN ???

Opera is not USABLE I had been trying it since some earily release to the current one, it is not UP TO STANDARD cannot even display gmail for me!

And I never get wma’s to sound outside of windows

It is truly a problem if you have absolutely no extensions installed, otherwise I would not say that Firefox is to blame. If you think it is that poorly written why are you using it?

Firefox 2.0 was consuming an absolutely staggering 760MB of virtual memory last night (don’t remember how much physical mem, but a lot too), with maybe 5 or 6 tabs open. This isn’t about memory leaks, it’s about memory usage. The memory may be released afterwards, but it shouldn’t be using those insane amounts in the first place. Sure, I have 1GB of RAM and lots of hard disk, but I didn’t pay for those resources to be squandered by badly written applications. I actually like to have more than one app open at once. Enough of this indulgence of Firefox and Mozilla, which is never extended to Microsoft: FIX THE PROBLEMS. NOW.
