A long time ago I used to use ObjectDock which gave me that Mac-like dock to place all of my shortcuts. I must have decided not to install the software again after reformatting my computer at some point. I haven’t really missed it too much but after seeing RocketDock I decided to give this a try.
I have to admit that the only reason I was trying RocketDock was because they offer it for free as compared to the ObjectDock which will run you nearly $20! It looked pretty nice and after using it for a day I will definitely keep this installed!
I took a screenshot to the right after I had it installed and got it running. I did change from the default theme to the “Vista Black” one because I really like the transparency effect. I just have the dock autohide itself on the side of the screen and when I need a shortcut I can have it pop back out.
Maybe you are an ObjectDock user and you have that perfect skin that you like. No problem! RocketDock lets you use skins from MobyDock, ObjectDock, RK Launcher, and Y’z Dock. You probably won’t have to go hunt for one because RocketDock already includes about 20-30 skins.
Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention that it even does that little “bouncy” animation that the Mac’s do. You know, the one when you click on the shortcut and the icon will bounce up and down. That may not be necessary but it is awfully cool.

I just downloaded and tried this. It is nice, however, I do not like the fact that you can not specify what icons to have on it.
I never use “My Documents” and rarely “My Network Places” or “My Music” or “My Pictures”.
Now to be able to put icons to the apps that I use all the time, that would be awesome.
I’m curious how they compare performance and resource wise? I use object dock and at times it can be a bit laggy.
It’s me again. I guess I spoke too soon. You can add items, even by dragging and dropping!

It is really great — 11MB of memory being taken up for a computer that has been on and running RocketDock for more than 24 hours. It says in the features that it was designed with slow computers in mind.

Why not use [home.cogeco.ca]~rklauncher/? It’s a smaller download (under 800k) & it doesn’t require any installation & uses lesser memory (5-7 MB). And what’s more you can even minimise windows to the dock.
For those who love aqua, apply an aqua visual style using a [neowin.net] Move the task bar to the top & have RK at the bottom. Absolutely ‘mac’nificent!! And you didn’t install a single thing!!

I have already setup and gotten used to RocketDock, so I will not switch. I really think this is an awesome piece of software and does what I need. I have a very fast computer with a good amount of RAM (2GB) and have not noticed any degradation of performance

lol dude object dock does all that and no it does not cost 20$ theres a free version which is perfect, you can also add stackdocklets to it.
