It appears as though Google is in the process of launching new themes for iGoogle homepages. They originally launched six different themes that change with time and weather back in March, and since then they haven’t added any new ones. Some users are reporting that five new themes have been added to the selection, but if you’re like me, you’re still stuck with the original six options. Not to worry though, if you’d like one of the new themes, there’s a way around it. Before I explain how to do it, let’s take a look at what’s new.

Autumn

Hong Kong

JR

Solar System

How to add a new theme:
Tony Ruscoe over at Google Blogoscoped outlines how you can use one of the new themes even if you don’t have them added to your list of options. This is what you’ll need to do:
- Go to your iGoogle homepage at www.google.com/ig
- In your address bar, enter one of the following lines of code based upon the them you’d like:
Aja Tiger:javascript:_dlsetp("preview_skin=skins/tiger.xml");Autumn:javascript:_dlsetp("preview_skin=skins/autumn.xml");
Hong Kong:javascript:_dlsetp("preview_skin=skins/hongkong.xml");
JR:javascript:_dlsetp("preview_skin=skins/jr.xml");
Solar System:javascript:_dlsetp("preview_skin=skins/planets.xml");
Once you enter the code in your address bar and press enter, the new theme will be applied.

The funny ’ makes the code break when copy+pasting. You have to replace it with a regular ‘
Hmm… it looks like there is no way to post a regular single quote on this blog without it trying to curl itself.
ohhh no wonder the code wasn’t working. Thanks Tae.
Thank god for the new themes, I was getting sick of the other ones.
Thanks for pointing out the error in the quotes…we fixed them.
I agree, it was time for new themes. I’m still surprised that they haven’t launched more though because it seems like such a simple thing to do and people like customization options.
