Google’s Acquisition De Jour: GrandCentral

Back in May, a screenshot from an Adobe Breeze presentation yielded an interesting Google Talk screenshot which included new links like “show dial-pad,” “call details,” and “close.” This gave us great indication that Google has plans of incorporating a calling feature where users would be able to dial-out and place phone calls right from Google Talk.

Google Adds PeakStream to List of Acquisitions

Will Google ever slow down? Their latest acquisition as confirmed by The Register is PeakStream, a software developer. I decided to go take a look at their site to get a better idea of what they’re all about, but as of yesterday, their entire site is down.

Pandora or Last.fm – Which do you Prefer?

The big news today for Last.fm is that CBS has acquired them for 280 million! In their statement, CBS said that Last.fm fits well with their plan to attract a younger crowd (as though this isn’t obvious) to help transform CBS from a “content company” to an “audience company.” CBS has been on a roll lately by fully immersing themselves in Web 2.0 and all it has to offer.

Apparently GreenBorder users have known this news for a couple of weeks now, but it’s just spreading around the Blogosphere.  On May 11th, Google made their next purchase on a long list of recent purchases — GreenBorder.  They are known for their “signature-less” approach to protect computers from viruses, spyware, and other threats by isolating each Internet session from the rest of a user’s computer.

Yahoo Photos Gone- Microsoft in Talks with Yahoo to Acquire?

Today begins the day that Yahoo will be closing down Yahoo Photos, a process that will occur over several months.  When Yahoo photos originally started, Flickr hadn’t yet been acquired.  It seems like at this point, there really isn’t a need for Yahoo to maintain two photo services.

Cisco buys WebEx for Twice what Google Paid for YouTube!

I think Cisco’s acquisition of WebEx is probably one of the largest in history at a bank-busting $3.2 Billion! In terms of cost, that equates to a lot of steak dinners.

eBay to Acquire Ticket Reseller/Scalper StubHub

eBay is at it again! Their list already includes PayPal, Shopping.com, and Skype ,with PayPal by far being the most successful buy, and adding to the acquisition list is StubHub.  Some call it a ticket reseller, others call in ticket scalpers, it's really all the same thing and it just might be a good buy.  eBay has been struggling recently with 100 million invested into a China eBay that has failed, along with a market value that has gone down 37 billion over the past two years (that's around 50%).  Right now they're in a position where they are seeking out other e-commerce avenues to help them stay afloat.

AOL-Yahoo to Merge in 2007?

No, they haven't merged..... yet. But, an AOL-Yahoo merge is rumored, looks rather attractive, and one source says that 2007 is the year for this. Another source agrees, but offers an additional possibility of AOL and Yahoo to be acquired by another company such as Microsoft. With Time Warner considering the option of selling AOL, who knows what will happen with the future of AOL.
