Find and Replace Text in Files

Windows only A few months ago we pointed out that Notepad++ has an option to find and replace text in multiple files, but that is obviously not the sole purpose of the app. If you need to perform a find and replace operation across multiple files I'd highly suggest that you try out a program that focuses on that kind of task, such as TextCrawler.

What Does Time Machine Backup Each Time?

Mac only Recently I had been noticing that each hour when my Time Machine backups ran there was an excessive amount of data being backed up. I could understand the data changing frequently given how much I use my computer, but the backups were still over 1GB even when the machine sat idle.

Free Backup Utility for Windows and Linux

Windows;  Linux Areca Backup is one of the few backup utilities that I've seen that runs on both Windows and Linux operating systems. Like most backup utilities you can choose what files you want to backup and where you want to send them to, which includes backing up the files to an FTP/SFTP server. How to do Incremental Gmail Backups

Windows only I rely on my Gmail account for just about all of my email communication, and I'd be pretty sad if I lost some of my emails. After all I have emails dating back to the middle of 2004 in my Gmail account, and so it has almost 7-years worth of my email history.

Synchronicity Makes File/Folder Backups Simple

We've covered all kinds of backup utilities on the site, but the one covered in this article is hands-down one of my favorites. Synchronicity is free, open source, and available in a portable format. Utilities like SyncBack have served me well over the years, and I've even gone as far as to buy a copy of the software for my primary PC. For my other computers I switch on and off between other tools, and one of the more recent ones is FreeFileSync.

BackupURL Lets You Archive Websites

I'm sure at one point or another you've wanted to share a link with a friend, but knew that when they went to visit the page that the content would change. Unfortunately you don't have control over when services like the WayBack Machine make archives of a site, and often times the backups available there are at least a year old.
