ESET NOD32 and Smart Security have always been my favorite security products because of their performance and high detection levels. There's some good news for current owners! ESET is getting ready to move to the next level with version 4 of their security suite and antivirus software.

ESET Receives their 50th VB100 Award

ESET makes what I believe to be the best antivirus application, and last week they announced that they really had something to be proud of. They earned their 50th VB100 award, which came from a test for their ESET Security offering on Ubuntu Linux Server. What's even more amazing is that ESET has only failed three times when being tested a total of 53 times:

Best Antivirus (Retrospective Tests)

Just yesterday we wrote about how some of the best antivirus apps were having troubles passing the VB100 test. In that scenario the apps were only tested against viruses that had already been released to the wild.

Best Antivirus Programs Fail VB100!

I think the image above that I put together sums things up quite well. Virus Bulletin did another "in the wild" test to see how many of the best antivirus solutions available would be able to catch every known virus they threw at it. Normally out of the 30+ apps that are tested 5 or 6 of them fail, but this time around over 50% of them came up short.
