There are plenty of Twitter clients out there for all of the different desktop platforms, but it seems like many of them are powered by Adobe Air since it provides a no-hassle cross-platform solution to developers. I always prefer native apps though, and MetroTwit is a shining example of how smooth a native Twitter client can be.
The demand for parental controls on computers is rapidly growing as kids continue to get their own personal machines. That's why Microsoft started to include some of that functionality in Vista and Windows 7, but it is generally pretty basic when it comes down to limiting the amount of time a user can spend on the machine.

Ever since we did a browser comparison test last year there have been a lot of emails and comments asking if we were going to update the article to reflect new releases. I thought about adding in the new browsers as they came out, but decided against it for one reason or another. Instead I thought it would be better to just do a fresh article, and include even more stats than last time.
Today Apple kind of took everyone by surprise when they released a big milestone for the Safari browser. The new Safari 4 Beta from Apple borrows some ideas from their competition, and they spiced it up a bit with some fancy graphics. This is most notably seen in the "Top Sites" screen as seen in the image above.
Mozilla is on the verge of releasing Firefox 3.1 Beta 2, and it's quite possible that in the next month or two the final version will be pushed out the door. A major new release like this means that some of your favorite extensions might not be working, and Mozilla doesn't want that to happen.
ESET NOD32 and Smart Security have always been my favorite security products because of their performance and high detection levels. There's some good news for current owners! ESET is getting ready to move to the next level with version 4 of their security suite and antivirus software.
If you like to stay on the bleeding edge of technology (and you're running Vista) you may want to consider modifying two registry keys on your system so that you can participate in the Vista SP2 Beta program. To join the program all you have to do is download this batch file, and run it on your Vista machine as an administrator.
When Mozilla launched Firefox 3 there were some people who weren't fond of the changes they made to the address bar. With it they decided to intermingle results from the user's history, bookmarks, and typed addresses to provide a long list of sites they might be trying to find.
Microsoft will be addressing a lot of privacy issues in Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2, which will be released to the public soon.
AOL has retired the older version of their radio application for the Mac OS X operating system in favor of the new AOL Radio 2.0. The application is powered by CBS Radio, and includes over 200 radio stations including 150+ CBS Radio stations that are spread out across the United States.

When WordPress 2.5 was released earlier this year the development team spent a lot of time focusing on the commonly overlooked administration area. Anyone running their own WordPress blog knows how much time you spend on the backside of things, and so this update was very much appreciated.
About a month ago Adobe released some of the first Beta apps from their Creative Suite 4 product line, and that included Dreamweaver CS4. The one app that was disappointingly missing was Photoshop CS4, which has left a lot of people wondering what's going on with it.
It's been an eventful past year for Skype. First they introduced high quality video calling in October, then they surpassed their 10 million simultaneous users milestone , followed by introducing video calling for their Linux version and then reaching their 100 billion minute milestone.
Notepad++ is definitely one of the best text editors for Windows, and pretty soon it will be getting even better. The new Notepad++ 5.0 is currently in Beta, and it includes a feature I've been waiting a long time for: auto-completion! As you can see in the screenshot above I was writing a bit of HTML, and as I started to close the "center" tag it offered to auto-complete it for me.
