Demonoid is Back Online!

The title says it all! Demonoid, a BitTorrent tracker, has been down since November 2007 when the Canadian Recording Industry forced them to close their doors. TorrentFreak reported today that the site would be resurrected under a new administrator, but I don't think anyone was expecting that it would happen so quickly.

Nine Inch Nails Uploads Album to Torrent Sites

The Band Nine Inch Nails really seems to understand where the music industry is headed. They recently released their new album called "Ghosts" on Torrent sites as a free download.  NIN isn't contracted to any specific record label, so they have the freedom to decide how they are going to spread their music.

Pirate Bay in Trouble Again?

The Pirate Bay is a torrent site that has been through just about everything you can imagine, and yet the site is still available. Now they are jumping through some hoops again, and this time there are four workers being charged with "". If they are found guilty they could possibly spend up to 2 years in jail, but the crew has already said that the site will stay alive regardless.

YouTorrent: Best Torrent Search Engine

I was disappointed, and still am, that Demonoid was shutdown. It was always my best source for BitTorrent files anywhere on the Internet. After that happened I was a straggler between the Torrent search engines. I would primarily use the Pirate Bay and MiniNova, but there wasn't one site that really felt convenient.

The Pirate Bay Wants to Help You Discover Music

The Pirate Bay sure does care about their users, don't they? :) Today they've shown this by launching a music discovery feature to help people find more of the music that they like so that they can spend more time downloading files. They were able to offer this thanks to data from Last.fm.

Watch Out Joost… Here Comes Miro!

Watch out Joost because here comes Miro! Some of you may have heard Miro mentioned quite a bit around the Web between yesterday and today, and that's because it really is worth talking about it. Everybody wants to get their hands on the open-source, rather slick video player with thousands of unrestricted channels including HD content.

O Demonoid, Demonoid, Wherefore art thou Demonoid

Demonoid, a popular invite-only BitTorrent tracker, seems to be swimming in some murky waters lately. At the end of September Demonoid was forced to temporarily shutdown by the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA), which is equivalent to America's RIAA. They came back online a few days later after installing a system to block all Canadian traffic.

Comcast Throttles Torrent Downloads – Workarounds Revealed

Comcast is quickly gaining enemies from the BitTorrent crowd by using new technology to throttle torrent downloads.  The Associated Press was able to confirm that they are in fact doing this through tests all over the nation.  In their report they say that this move is "the most drastic example yet of data discrimination by a U.S.

How Far is the MPAA Willing to Go?

Stopping piraters from downloading movies illegally is at the very top of the MPAA's task list.  Given that, they have gone to some great lengths to enforce their zero tolerance policy, and an exclusive article over at Wired today points this out.  The article starts out "Promises of Hollywood fame and fortune persuaded a young hacker to betray former associates in the BitTorrent scene to Tinseltown's anti-piracy lobby." This situation involving Robert Anderson is just one of many examples of what the MPAA is doing to try and stop piracy, but does it really do them any good?
