With Opera 10 one of the new features that was revealed was a "turbo" mode that sits in the bottom-left corner of the status bar, and is represented by a little speedometer.

Firefox 3.7 and Firefox 4.0 Interface Mockups

Mozilla just wrapped up the Firefox 3.5 release a few weeks ago, but they are already going to town on what they can do for future improvements. When they redesigned Firefox 3.0 I thought the new designs were okay, but they weren't anything that seemed to be revolutionary.

Browser Comparison: Memory Usage, Speed, Acid 3 Test

Ever since we did a browser comparison test last year there have been a lot of emails and comments asking if we were going to update the article to reflect new releases. I thought about adding in the new browsers as they came out, but decided against it for one reason or another. Instead I thought it would be better to just do a fresh article, and include even more stats than last time.

Microsoft: Firefox/Chrome are Insecure, Difficult to Use, and Unreliable

I'm sure you guys will get a kick out of this one. Microsoft has posted a "Get the Facts" page that has a chart comparing some general areas of IE8 versus Firefox and Chrome. Naturally IE8 comes out on top... way on top!

IE8 in Windows 7 is Nice

I've got a lot of friends I talk with that are already running Windows 7 RC1 as their primary operating system, and they are very impressed with it. Many of them are rather diehard Firefox or Google Chrome fans, but all of them admit that Internet Explorer 8 handles nicely in the operating system. All of them even gave me the same reason... awesome integration with the new Taskbar.

KwiClick: Faster Searching in Firefox

I'm always on the lookout for a good Firefox extension, and I got an email the other day about one I've really fallen in love with. It's called KwiClick, and it does exactly what I look for in an extension... it stays out of my way until I need it, and when I do use it I get the results I want.

Desktop Firefox Extension: Another Speed Dial Concept

When Opera introduced Speed Dial into their browser I didn't realize quite how big of a hit it would become. Now most browsers are shipping with some sort of iteration of this feature that is capable of showing thumbnail previews for the sites you frequently visit. It's basically a visual way to view your favorite sites.

Browser & OS Stats for April 2009: Windows Losing Share

The last time we did a report on the operating system and browser stats was back in January 2009. In January Chrome was starting to take off as it passed 1% market share, and both Windows and Internet Explorer suffered some big blows as their competition scooped up some of their precious users.

Safari 4 Beta is Worth a Look

Today Apple kind of took everyone by surprise when they released a big milestone for the Safari browser. The new Safari 4 Beta from Apple borrows some ideas from their competition, and they spiced it up a bit with some fancy graphics. This is most notably seen in the "Top Sites" screen as seen in the image above.

Google Chrome Master Password Still Non-Existent?

I really love the Google Chrome browser, but it seems as though the development team has been overlooking a huge security issue that I thought would be resolved by now. If you save passwords in the browser (like a lot of other users do) you may find out the hard way that the passwords are not stored in a manor that would keep other people from quickly accessing the data.

Browser & OS Stats for January 2009: What’s Going on Microsoft?

The last time we did a report on the operating system and browser stats was back in October 2008. At the time Google Chrome was just starting to gain some traction, and it was still too early to tell whether Apple's new MacBooks would help them attract new users to their platform.

Where is the Browser Market Headed?

There has been more talk about web browsers in the last few weeks than any time I can remember in the past. Google Chrome came out of the Beta phase, Opera unveiled the first Alpha release of version 10, Internet Explorer 8 is suspected to have a 3rd Beta coming in the next month, and Firefox 3.1 Beta 2 was just unveiled.

Opera 10 Gets Inline Spell Checking and More

I've been waiting to see what Opera had in store for us in version 10, and it looks like everyone is finally getting a peak. In fact I'm a bit surprised by what has been revealed so far, but in a good way. For awhile it seemed like other browsers were trying to find their own ways to adopt features that were first introduced in Opera, but the opposite never really happened.

CyberNotes: Auto-hide any Firefox Toolbar

Having toolbars in a browser can be both frustrating and convenient. On one hand they can often cram a lot of useful functionality into a small area, but on the other hand they eat up precious space that could be used for viewing websites. After all, we know what your browser can look like when you've installed a few too many toolbars.

Browser & OS Stats for October 2008: Firefox Almost at 20%

It's been a few months since we last wrote about the browser and operating system stats, but that doesn't mean they haven't been on our minds. In fact the market has changed a little bit since our last report in July 2008.

Flip-3D Style Firefox Tab Switching

Mozilla has decided that in Firefox 3.1 they want users to have a fresh new way to switch between tabs in a browser window. That's why they've come up with a system that resembles Apple's Cover Flow for moving from one tab to another. What if you want a bit more eye candy though?

CyberNotes: First Look at Cruz for Mac

Web browsers are becoming more and more important to our everyday lives because they help keep us connected, informed, and productive. So it's no wonder that there are several different people competing to be successful in this area including Microsoft, Mozilla, Apple, Opera, and now even Google.
