WordPress 2.6 Utilizes Google Gears for Better Performance

When WordPress 2.5 was released earlier this year the development team spent a lot of time focusing on the commonly overlooked administration area. Anyone running their own WordPress blog knows how much time you spend on the backside of things, and so this update was very much appreciated.

BurnAware Free 1.3.1 Download Mirror (The Last Free Version)

Back in March we covered two free applications that could burn CD's, DVD's, and Blu-ray discs. BurnAware was one of my favorite solutions because it offered a no-brainer interface that nearly anyone could understand, and didn't come bundled with a bunch of features you'd likely never use.

CyberNotes: Recipe Managers

Sure you might be a geek, but there's a good chance that you don't conform to the geek-code of ordering a pizza for dinner every night. If that's the case then it might be time to trade-in your recipe box for a digital alternative. To help you make the switch we scoured around looking for a few recipe management applications for both Windows and Macs.

Firefox 3 Themes: Vista on XP, or XP on Vista

Are you using Windows XP but prefer the Firefox 3 theme for Vista, or vice versa? Unfortunately Mozilla decided that Windows users shouldn't be given the option between the two themes, but it was only a matter of time before someone duplicated them for everyone to use. As you can see above I'm running Windows XP, but Firefox 3 has the Vista theme enabled.

CyberNotes: Firefox 3 Review

It's been a year and a half since Mozilla shipped Firefox 3 Alpha 1, and what we saw initially wasn't very breathtaking. For this first milestone release Mozilla focused on backend improvements that would, in the long run, make the browser a better competitor in a world that is largely dominated by Internet Explorer.

Digsby Getting Performance Improvements

Digsby is hands-down my favorite instant messenger on Windows not only because it works on all the major networks, but also because it is well designed. When we first covered the messenger some of you were a little hesitant to use it because of the excessive amounts of memory it chewed up (upwards of 70MB), but you'll be happy to hear that the Digsby team has taken your criticism to heart!

Firefox 3 Download Day Starts NOW

About two weeks ago we wrote about how Mozilla was going after a Guinness World Record when Firefox 3 launched. Well, that day is today, and the official Firefox 3 Download Day started just minutes ago! It strolled in about an hour late, but at least it made it here safe and sound. The site is getting hammered pretty hard right now, so don't be surprised if you can't get through right away.

Firefox 3.0 RC3 Fixes Critical Mac Bug

It looked like Mozilla was ready to ship Firefox 3 with the last Release Candidate, but a critical bug surfaced that they couldn't ignore. So Mozilla is rushing out a Firefox 3 RC3 that fixes only this one bug, and only Mac OS X users need to make the upgrade. Firefox 3 RC3 for both Windows and Linux are the same as Firefox 3 RC2.

CyberNotes: Thottle or Limit Bandwidth Usage in Firefox and Internet Explorer

Windows only Have you ever wanted to have more control over how your browser used it's bandwidth? Some routers will let you do this for Quality of Service (QoS) reasons, but it's also possible to achieve the same results using some free software.

RapidShare Redesign Cleans Up the Site

RapidShare has always been one of those sites that has seemed rather clunky. When you visited it to download a file you had to spend too much time trying to navigate around just to find where you could initiate the transfer. That's not the case anymore! They've actually revamped the interface, cleaned up the site, and it's not half bad.

Regex Widget for Mac OS X

Mac only A few months ago we found an awesome online regular expression (regex) utility that was something most programmers could really appreciate. Assuming you have Adobe Air installed you could also download that regex tool onto your computer so that it would also be available offline. At the time I didn't think it could get much more convenient than that, but I was wrong.

Mozilla Rallies the Troops for Firefox 3

Since the release of Firefox 3 is right around the corner it comes as no surprise that Mozilla is trying to rally the troops community. Back in 2006 they celebrated World Firefox Day by getting people to invite their friends to try Firefox, and right about the time Firefox 2 launched Mozilla gave the much deserved acknowledgements.

Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 Beta

When we announced back in March that Photoshop CS4 had been leaked there were (and still are) some skeptics that it's the real deal. The timing of the leak seemed about right since the Adobe Creative Suite is on an 18 to 24 month release cycle, which would place the final release of Adobe CS4 somewhere between October 2008 and April 2009.
