Facebook Chat Slowly Rolling Out…

When I logged into my Facebook account yesterday, I was surprised to see a box in the lower right corner welcoming me to Facebook Chat. It was surprising for a couple of reasons, but mainly because I knew I hadn't signed up for chat and there it was telling me that I could start conversations.

Digsby: A Nice Cross-Network Messenger

I've been meaning to give Digsby a spin ever since the public Beta was released about two weeks ago. It looked like it was a well designed cross-network (and cross-platform) instant messenger, and it offered quite a few features that no other instant messengers have touched on before. And after having used it for only about 30 minutes I think I may have found myself a new messenger.

Helpful Tip: One-Click "Ignore All" Solution for Facebook Apps

Ever since Facebook apps launched, one of my biggest pet-peeves has been all of the darn app requests I receive.  It's annoying to say the least, and the worst part about it all is that there is no easy way to ignore them all with one click.  For each individual request, I must click "ignore" over and over again.

Microsoft Wants a Chunk of Facebook

The big news coming from the Wall Street Journal yesterday was that Microsoft is in talks with Facebook to purchase a 5% chunk of the mammoth social network. While the simple fact that they're talking is no surprise, what is a surprise is that Microsoft is offering up between $300-$500 million for the 5% share. Microsoft's offering puts Facebook's value at an astounding $10 billion at the minimum.

Facebook is Headed for the Classroom

Facebook is already college classrooms these days when students become "bored" with the lecture going on, or "multi-task" by typing their notes and then catching up with Facebook at the same time.  While it may already be in the classrooms, it's being used a bit differently in a Stanford classroom this semester as the focus of a new course.

Lots of people are talking about the rumor that TripAdvisor has acquired the Facebook application “Where I’ve been” for a whopping $3 million dollars! It hasn’t been confirmed quite yet, but it’s likely to be true. Why is it such a big payday? Well, considering that the app made it’s grand entrance on Facebook around June 8th, developer Craig Ulliott has then made about $43,000 each day his app has been available.

Facebook Source Code Removed

Earlier this week there was a lot of chatter about how a portion of Facebook’s source code was leaked and then published on a newly created blog, Facebook Secrets. The leak was attributed to a bug on a “” It certainly wasn’t a good day for Facebook as the code quickly spread around the Internet, much like what we saw when the HD DVD crack code spread like a wild fire.
