Integrated Gmail Transforms Your Inbox into a Website Hub

For the longest time I've been wanting Google to bring all of their services together into some sort of unified interface. A place where I could read my email, manage my calendar, catch up on news in my RSS feeds, search for a place on a map, and so on.

Backup Only Changed Portions of Files with DeltaCopy

I'll forewarn you that DeltaCopy is something you won't want to use for all of your backup needs because it's not the easiest thing in the world to set up. It is, however, useful if you're backing up large amounts of data every night that doesn't change very much.

YAPM: Process Manager with a Ribbon UI

Most computer power users probably open up the Windows task/process manager at least a few times each day. Maybe it's to close down an app that isn't responding, to see what's eating your system resources, or maybe even a bit more advanced like making sure you're aware of everything that's running on your PC.

Drive Manager: Hide Drives, Assign Drive Letters to Folders, and More

This free app will surely be a gem for any information-bearing geek out there. Not only is Drive Manager free, but it's also portable... that's a combination we don't see nearly enough.

Deleting Locked Files (32 and 64-bit)

It seems like on Windows I always come across those pesky files I can't delete because another process is using it. Up until a few months ago I had always used a program called Unlocker to get around this, and it has served me well. I had to stop using it, however, when I moved to Vista 64-bit since it only includes support for 32-bit versions of Windows.

OpenOffice with a Ribbon?

I was going back and forth whether I should write about this, but I wanted to see what everyone's thoughts were on this. I posted on Twitter a week ago about news of OpenOffice.org working on a ribbon-like design for an upcoming version of their office suite. When I saw the news on an official Sun blog I was rather disappointed, which is why I wasn't even going to mention it here on the site.

AppHider for Mac Puts Program Shortcuts in Menu Bar

It's not often that I write about Mac apps because I don't find some of them all that interesting, but I came across one that I thought was pretty useful. AppHider is a free program who's goal is to tuck apps away into the Menu Bar. It then lets you assign any keyboard shortcut or AppleScript to the menu options you create.

Browser Comparison: Memory Usage, Speed, Acid 3 Test

Ever since we did a browser comparison test last year there have been a lot of emails and comments asking if we were going to update the article to reflect new releases. I thought about adding in the new browsers as they came out, but decided against it for one reason or another. Instead I thought it would be better to just do a fresh article, and include even more stats than last time.

PureSync: Great for USB Drive or Memory Card Backups

I'm always looking for awesome backup solutions that you won't have to pull your wallet out for, and there's no arguing that there are plenty of free apps out there. One that really caught my attention recently was PureSync. it does all of the common things you'd expect from a backup program such as two-way syncing or a one-way backup.

Gmail Labs: Almost a Year Later and 50+ Available

This Friday Gmail Labs will be celebrating its one year anniversary. That's right... those "extras" that you've been enjoying in Gmail all started one year ago when they pulled the curtain off of 13 features that testers could enable in their Gmail accounts.

Mac-Like Stacks in RocketDock

RocketDock is definitely one of my favorite application launchers because of how well it is designed to mimic the functionality of the Mac Dock. It can also be extended with skins to change the appearance, or with docklets to add more features.

KwiClick: Faster Searching in Firefox

I'm always on the lookout for a good Firefox extension, and I got an email the other day about one I've really fallen in love with. It's called KwiClick, and it does exactly what I look for in an extension... it stays out of my way until I need it, and when I do use it I get the results I want.

Keep Windows Always on Top with DeskPins

When you're working around your computer sometimes it can be useful to pin a window to the top. Basically that will ensure that it will stay on top no matter what other window you currently have focused.

Desktop Firefox Extension: Another Speed Dial Concept

When Opera introduced Speed Dial into their browser I didn't realize quite how big of a hit it would become. Now most browsers are shipping with some sort of iteration of this feature that is capable of showing thumbnail previews for the sites you frequently visit. It's basically a visual way to view your favorite sites.

Automatically Rotate Desktop Wallpapers

We've shown you some tools in the past that lets you automatically rotate your desktop backgrounds (like this one), but the sheer simplicity of Wallpaper Juggler is what makes it so great. Basically what it does is download wallpapers from InterfaceLIFT and WallpaperStock, and you can choose to have it grab only the most popular wallpapers.

RichCopy: Free Robocopy Alternative from Microsoft

At work I use Microsoft's Robocopy command line tool almost everyday for copying files between multiple environments. Digital Inspiration dug up a real gem though, and it's a tool Microsoft recently released called RichCopy. It not only has a nice graphical interface for copying files, but also comes packed with a few handy features.

Ginipic: Enhanced Image Search for Your Desktop

Searching for a specific image on the Internet can be like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Some sites, such as Google Image search, try to make the process easier, but shuffling through one page after another of results can quickly get tedious.

High Sign: Mouse Gesture Application

Mouse gestures are something that I've gotten into the habit of using for years now, and giving them up would almost be like giving up the ability to use keyboard shortcuts. Some gestures have become second nature to me, and when I'm on a computer that doesn't have that capability I get rather frustrated.
