CyberNotes: Cookie Editors in Firefox & Opera

Cookies in web browsers are an easy way for sites to store authentication/login information, settings, and so much more. One of the things that some sites do for security or privacy purposes is force the cookies to expire after a period of time. Sometimes they expire after a day, a week, a year, or when you close your browser.

CyberNotes: Recover Lost Bookmarks in Firefox

Has something ever happened to your Firefox bookmarks, and you were left wondering how you could get back the bookmarks that you lost? Some of you may be using a service such as Foxmarks (review) so that all of your bookmarks are also backed-up online, but often any change you make to your bookmarks will also be reflected in the service you're synchronizing with.

Tweak Firefox’s Address Bar Autocomplete Settings

A few days ago Lifehacker posted a sweet Firefox configuration option that would enable inline auto-completion of URL's as you type them into the Address Bar. Changing that setting took away the necessity to use the arrows all of the time for selecting the first entry listed.

CyberNotes: Share a Firefox Profile Between Ubuntu and Windows

One of the new things in Ubuntu 7.10 is the ability to read and write to NTFS formatted drives, which is great for Windows XP and Vista users. What that means is that you can create a Firefox profile in Windows and set it up so that Ubuntu uses the exact same profile.

Firefox 3 – Put More Emphasis on URL Highlighting

Way back in July we introduced a new Firefox 3 feature that focused on making users safer from phishing attacks. This is done using URL highlighting which puts more emphasis on the domain name, kind of like what the Locationbar2 extension is used for.

CyberNotes: Must-Have Firefox Tab Manager

It's not often that I come across a Firefox extension that does so much that it actually warrants its own CyberNotes article, but Tab Kit is one of those extensions. The only thing is that the extension is so new that it's still in the Mozilla Sandbox, and therefore requires an extra step or two to actually get it installed.

Helpful Tip: Remove Flickr Spaceball.gif in Firefox and Opera

One of the things you may have noticed with Flickr is that the photos will have another image overlaid on top of them called spaceball.gif (here is an example photo) This prevents you from copying the address to the image or being able to save it to your computer.

CyberNotes: Getting the most out of Firefox Sidebars

Firefox is an extremely customizable browser, and combining that with the growing popularity of widescreen monitors results in more sidebars. I used to never use sidebars before I got a widescreen computer because it just took up extra screen space that was otherwise pretty useful. Now you’ll hardly ever find me with a sidebar notopen on my computer!

Extension to Auto-hide the Firefox Tab Bar

I just tried out a new extension and the purpose of it is to auto-hide my Firefox Tab Bar. After all, an entire toolbar takes up a good chunk of space and every little bit of room matters to a power user.

There is so much information all over the web that keeping up with it all can become a tedious task. Most sites have feeds that can be subscribed to so that all of your news is aggregated into one location, but sometimes it is nice to actually visit your favorite sites.

Mozilla’s Trimming the Fat from the Add-ons Site

Mozilla has announced that they will be relaunching the Firefox Add-ons site on Monday with only a handful of the extensions that are currently available. In fact, they are said to be trimming down the list of available add-ons to just several hundred, which means they could be cutting 80% to 90% of the ones listed on the site.

CyberNotes: Vista Skins for Firefox and Opera

Now that Windows Vista has been released it is time for software developers to start making their applications look a little cleaner with the Aero Glass interface.
