Free Online Placeholder Image Generators

When doing web development work I frequently find myself needing placeholder images that have specific dimensions. The last thing you want to do is sit there taking the time cropping a bunch of images to the size you need, and that's where placeholder generators come into play.

Backupify Automatically Creates Backups Of Your Online Belongings

Over the last five years, there has been a huge increase in the amount of data we store online. We post pictures to Flickr, bookmark sites on Delicious, keep documents in Google Docs and tweet with Twitter. But unlike with offline data, backing up your online belongings requires a different approach.

MyFive: Most Popular Cameras on Flickr 2009

It's been well over a year, and a lot happens in a year's time, so we thought we'd take a look at the current most popular cameras on Flickr. This list gives some interesting insight as to which cameras are popular, at least among the Flickr crowd of photographers.

Flickr is a photo sharing service that has around for over four years, and in that time it has grown at an astounding pace. Thousands of images are uploaded to Flickr every minute, and it was just last year that they had over two billion photos uploaded to their site. The good news is that with the increase in popularity also comes an increase in the number of free tools available.

What’s Going On Inside Yahoo?

What's going on inside of Yahoo? That's the big question of the day after learning that multiple people have left, or will be leaving Yahoo shortly. To give you a few examples, Stewart Butterfield and Caterina Fake, the husband and wife co-founders of Flickr are leaving.

CyberNotes: View and Share Panoramic Images at Panoye

I'm one of those that tends to go to photo sites like Flickr if I have a minute to spare just to search for the name of a place I'd like to visit someday so that I can see photos that people have taken from there. It sure doesn't beat actually going there, but if it's as close as I'll get to say, The Eiffel Tower, I'll take it.

iPhone is Popular on Flickr

I've owned a few camera phones over the last several years but the camera part of those phones has always been pretty useless because I rarely used it. I don't know if it's because the pictures never turned out that great or because once I took a picture, it just sat on the phone and was never removed.

Flickr Video Arrives… with Limitations

Back in mid-March this year, we wrote about a rumor that Flickr Video would be here sometime in April. Well, it's April and as it turns out, the rumor was true. Flickr Video has launched. It launched yesterday, and so far it's received some mixed reviews from people disappointed about some of the limitations that have been put in place for the new service.

Flickr Donates 10,000 Pro Memberships "for Good"

There are so many reasons that people use Flickr whether it's for business, personal, or marketing purposes.  A recent blog entry over at Flickr points out how some members of Flickr are using it for something a little different than others and that is "to shine a light of social or global issues." For this reason, Flickr has created a new site called Flickr for Good.  It's a place where information can be shared on charity, issues, or other good causes out there.
