After Microsoft announced that they were hoping to acquire Yahoo, there was obviously all kinds of talk around the web. Yahoo fans expressed both pleasure and mostly dis-pleasure at the thought of Yahoo being taken over by Microsoft.
For those of you who read the site regularly, you probably know by now that I have a Flickr Pro account. It's just $25 per year, and offers unlimited photo storage and bandwidth. When I was looking around to find the perfect photo sharing site for my family and myself, Flickr was the one option that stood out to me.
Existing Flickr Pro Account holders as well as those of you considering purchasing one, listen up: Flickr has a deal going on for the month of January where you'll get three free months! It's not a bad deal at all, but you'll have to act soon, and it does work a little differently than what you might expect.
Flickr just announced that Pro members ($25 a year) are now able to keep track of stats for their photos! That's right, you can actually see what photos are popular for today, this week, or over all time. You'll also be able to view where people are coming from that are viewing your photos (what search engines, websites, etc...), and a handy graph will plot your traffic in an easy-to-read fashion.
We knew it was coming, and now it's here! Now you can edit the photos you've uploaded to Flickr right Flickr using Picnik, my favorite online photo editing service. The folks at Flickr must have "creating a fantastic experience for our users" at the top of their priority list, because the service continues to get better and better.
Tivo owners now have a new convenient way to view their photos on the TV. Thanks to a partnership with both Picasa and Photobucket, users can access their photos (assuming they're an account holder for either service) right from their broadband connected Tivo device. Depending on the model of Tivo that they own, they can even view them in HD.
One of the games that I've always enjoyed doing on the computer are the image puzzles, where you provide an image and it scrambles it all up for you to reorganize. Often times the puzzle only has one blank spot that you can use for sliding around the different puzzle pieces, kind of like this game.
It seems like it's been quite a while since Flickr launched a new version of their popular uploader, and it has. That's why it was nice to hear that Flickr Uploadr 3.0 Beta has been pushed out the door. It comes with the same great features as before, except they've added a few additional features that make it even better. You can get the new Uploadr here.
Over at Flickr, they've been sitting and waiting over the last week for the two billionth photo to be uploaded. This is a huge milestone for them and they were obviously pretty excited about it. The Flickr team even made bets on the exact date and time (the winner guessed November 11th) that the photo would be uploaded.
A new Microsoft job advertisement gives us a glimpse into Microsoft's plans to take on Flickr- yes, they're moving on to photos! You can't tell me that you didn't know this was coming given that Microsoft already took on YouTube (or tried to) with Soapbox. Flickr has become one of the more popular photo solution on the web that it only makes sense that Microsoft would try their hand at this too.

At the Web 2.0 Summit going on right now, Flickr's co-founder Stewart Butterfield will be demonstrating two changes that will debut over the next several weeks to the popular photo sharing service. These new features will focus on geography and allowing people to discover places around the world using photos.
Microsoft just launched Windows Live Photo Gallery Beta 2, and just like the previous version it is available for both Windows XP SP2 and Vista. In order to get the update you must have the first Beta already installed, and then you must perform a Windows Update with the Microsoft Updates enabled.

JAlbum is a free cross-platform program that I've been using for years, and before I got my Flickr account it was my only way to share digital photos with my family. I had a computer at my house being used to serve up the photos to anyone that requested them, but Flickr was too great of a deal to pass up.
One of the things you may have noticed with Flickr is that the photos will have another image overlaid on top of them called spaceball.gif (here is an example photo) This prevents you from copying the address to the image or being able to save it to your computer.
