Today was a pretty big day for Google's Android project with the unavailing of the first Android powered phone at the T-Mobile Google Android Event. Making an appearance at the event was Google's own Sergey and Larry. Apparently they were trying to come in with a bang, because they entered on rollerblades.
Yesterday was a pretty big day for the Google Android mobile platform. For starters Google announced that the very first handsets shipping with Android will have a Beta version of what they call Android Market.
Back in November, Google finally put to rest the rumors that they were developing a Gphone by announcing that they were actually working on a standalone mobile operating system called Android.
Last week Google hosted a conference that was geared towards developers, and during the keynote they showed off some of the cool things that the Android mobile operating system was capable of doing. In it's current state I would say that Android doesn't appear to be quite as polished as the iPhone, but the functionality is definitely awesome.
Back in November when Google released their Android (open handset alliance project) Software Development kit, they announced a $10 million dollar contest at the same time. The whole idea behind the contest was to entice developers to develop applications for Android.
The Google Android mobile operating system will likely take the mobile industry by storm when it is released. From what I've read they are already lining up handset manufacturers who want to run Android when it becomes publicly available, and it's expected to be available on around a dozen different handsets running it when launched later this year.
Right now the Mobile World Congress is going on in Barcelona, and sites like Gizmodo and Engadget are there taking in all of the gadget goodness. Google Android is, as expected, a hot topic of the show. Although still early in development there are some devices available that have been whipped up to serve as a development platform.
The New York Times managed to get some time with Steve Jobs yesterday after his keynote, and there were some interesting remarks in the interview from Jobs. Apparently his mother never taught him that if he didn't have anything nice to say, not to say anything at all.
As expected Google released their Android Software Development Kit (SDK) today. It provides all of the tools needed to start creating applications that run on the next generation mobile operating system, and Google is getting their checkbooks out to help ensure that Android won't be a flop...
