Geeks.com is a very popular shopping site for computer buffs to pick up parts. They have begun to send out emails to users because it was revealed that their database was hacked on December 5th, 2007. Not only do the hackers have in their possession the names and addresses of the people, but also credit card numbers with their expiration date and card verification number.

Caution: Online MD5 Cracker Tool

One of the most popular ways for securely encoding passwords is using MD5. Many online services use it as well as some applications because it is an efficient way to securely store a user's password. For example, if your password was "admin" the MD5 hash would look like "21232f297a57a5a743894a 0e4a801fc3."

Download Windows XP SP3 via Windows Update

It's that time again! Yep, time for more Microsoft leaks. This time around a "hack" has been exposed that will let existing Windows XP users download and install a Release Candidate of Service Pack 3 (SP3) via Windows Update. If this sounds familiar to you it's probably because a similar hack was already leaked back in October for Vista SP1.

HTML Signatures for Gmail 2

We just wrote about how Gmail 2 breaks a lot of the Greasemonkey scripts that are available, and Gina from Lifehacker turned right around and released Better Gmail 2. As expected this version only has a fraction of scripts that the original extension had, and it still lacks some of my favorites: Google Calendar integration, Google Reader integration, and Folders4Gmail.

Gmail Greasemonkey API

Just yesterday my Gmail account was upgraded to the new Gmail 2.0, and I can say first hand that there are definitely some speed improvements. Opening up emails only takes a split second, and the new contact manager is uber sweet. The coolest thing, however, is the new ability to bookmark emails, labels, and locations.
