USB 3.0 Transfer Speeds are Blazing Fast

Last week Intel unveiled USB 3.0 specs that demonstrates how the next generation USB is going to work. USB 3.0, also known as SuperSpeed USB, is due out in 2009 or 2010. Intel was even kind enough to make the new specification royalty free so that developers don't have to fork out money just to make devices that utilize the new technology.

Mac Sales Up, iPod Sales Level Out in Q2

Ever since Apple switched to Intel processors, they've seen the sales of their Mac computers go up, and up, and up. Part of this is probably due to the fact that former PC users feel comfortable making the "switch" knowing they can run Windows if need be. Apple's fiscal second quarter just ended, and as the trend has been going lately, sales of Mac computers were up once again.

Apple Acquires Microprocessor Design Company

We already know that Steve Jobs is on the verge of being a control freak, so the news coming from Forbes today that Apple has agreed to purchase a microprocessor design company makes sense. The company is P.A. Semi, and it's rumored that Apple is willing to spend $278 million dollars in cash to acquire them.

Microsoft, Google, Yahoo Execs Among Richest Americans

Forbes has released their list of the 400 richest Americans where this year, even one BILLION dollars wasn't enough to land you on the list.  As we've heard, the rich are getting richer with the minimum net worth on this list being $1.3 billion dollars compared to $300 million last year.

There are a lot of Apple fans out there these days, and I have nothing against them. I don't use any Apple products aside from the iPod, but I do think it is good that they are emerging successful in the computer market so that there is more competition. And good competition often means that the consumers win.

Office 2008 for Mac Release Date Pushed Back

Mac users were supposed to be getting the newly redesigned Office 2008, but as it turns out the development team hit a snafu. Now the release date for Office 2008 on Macs is getting pushed back from Fall 2007 to January 2008. Yes, all Intel Mac users running Office 2004 have about 5 more months that they will be putting up with the sluggish performance because of running it with Rosetta.

Intel’s Core 2 Duo Pushing AMD into the Red?

It was no surprise that AMD posted a loss for the first quarter. However, their loss was quite a bit more than expected– $611 million. There are plenty of factors that contribute to this loss, but I think Intel’s Core 2 Duo processor definitely could have contributed to it.
