Disable IE Tab Previews in Windows 7

In Windows 7 Microsoft made it so that multiple windows from the same application are grouped into the same icon, and when it comes to Internet Explorer it treats each tab as a window. That means if you have two tabs open in Internet explorer the Taskbar icon will show two previews when you click on it (like the screenshot above).

Test IE6, IE7, IE8, IE9, and IE10 in Windows 7

Back in 2008 we wrote about a free tool called IETester that would let you test a webpage in a variety of Internet Explorer versions. Since that time Microsoft has rolled out new releases of the browser, and the developer of IETester has continued to add support for each one.

Inline Spell Check for IE9

If you've grabbed the recent release of Internet Explorer 9 you may have noticed that it is still missing something that many other browsers now include by default: spell checking! I'm not sure why Microsoft hasn't rolled up a no-brainer inline spell checker into the browser, but third-party developers are stepping in to fill this void.

How to Repair Your Internet Connection

There are an infinite number of reasons as to why someone's Internet connection could stop working, but even with that in mind there are still a number of things we techies are "trained" to check first before banging our heads against the wall. I'm talking about things like releasing/renewing the IP address, flushing the DNS, and checking the Windows Firewall settings.

A Closer Look at the Next Generation Address Bars

To me, a browser's address bar is one of the most important areas of the browser. Because of an increasing number of phishing attacks, the browser developers are being forced to rethink the way URLs are displayed to users.

Browser Comparison: Memory Usage, Speed, Acid 3 Test

Ever since we did a browser comparison test last year there have been a lot of emails and comments asking if we were going to update the article to reflect new releases. I thought about adding in the new browsers as they came out, but decided against it for one reason or another. Instead I thought it would be better to just do a fresh article, and include even more stats than last time.

IE8 in Windows 7 is Nice

I've got a lot of friends I talk with that are already running Windows 7 RC1 as their primary operating system, and they are very impressed with it. Many of them are rather diehard Firefox or Google Chrome fans, but all of them admit that Internet Explorer 8 handles nicely in the operating system. All of them even gave me the same reason... awesome integration with the new Taskbar.
