The other day Ward pointed out in the comments a simple little application that's available for Windows users who are looking to convert movies to a video format that the iPhone and iPods can play. We talked about being able to do this using the SUPER video converter, but a lot of you are probably just wanting to go from AVI to MP4. If that's the case the iPodME program is just what you need.

A few weeks ago I bought the WunderRadio app for the iPhone because it did something most other Internet radio apps couldn't: play local stations via MMS streams. I flipped through the screenshots and read through the reviews to see if it could play Clear Channel stations (namely KISS FM), and there was plenty of confirmation that the program did.

There have been a few different radio applications that have come around, but one frequent complaint is that none of them offer a way to stream music in the background. This is a limitation that Apple has placed on third-party programs, but the native iPod app has this ability.

Apple's big "Let's Rock" event just finished up and as expected, the iPod Nano stole the show. As you can see from the picture above, the new Nano is longer and has some more rounded features, but it also comes in a whole rainbow of colors sure to please anyone.

Ever since Apple's App Store launched, we have been waiting for a free app to view Wikipedia articles. Up until today, the only Wikipedia application for the iPhone that we knew of was called iWik, but you had to pay for it. Today Wikipanion launches, it's nearly perfect, and it's free.

The Wall Street Journal recently sat down with Steve Jobs to see how things are going with the newly released App Store. As expected, things are going really well. In the past month that the App Store has been available to iPhone and iPod Touch users, more than 60 million applications have been downloaded.

There are both pros and cons to the fact that Apple has so much control over iPhone application distribution. One area that they have control over which might be seen as both a pro and a con is the removal of "bad apps" from a phone. You read that right, Apple has the capability of disabling unauthorized or malicious applications from your phone.

Apple really surprised us by launching an update to the iPhone firmware last night. We knew that version 2.1 of the firmware was supposed to be coming in September sometime because it will have the push notification system for 3rd party apps that everybody has been talking about, but we definitely didn't know that Apple was working on 2.0.1.

There's no doubt that applications for the iPhone have become a huge hit since they became available in early July. With over 1,300 apps currently available, users have a nice selection of options to choose from.

Apple's App Store is now over two weeks old, and I have to say that overall I'm impressed with the variety of applications available for download. In the first three days of the launch over 10 million downloads were served up by Apple, and in the first 10 days that number increased to over 25 million downloads. No matter which way you slice it they're averaging millions of downloads each day.

One of the features that many people are quick to point out is missing from the iPhone is voice dialing. Hundreds of phones offer such a feature and when the new iPhone 3G didn't have it, people were left wondering why. Soon the iPhone will have at least a few voice-type features thanks to technology that AT&T is researching and developing.

There are a lot of great applications that are coming through Apple's App Store for both the iPhone and iPod Touch, but one of my new favorites would have to be the 100% free WordPress for iPhone.

It's the iPhone 3G Launch Day today and it wouldn't be complete without some humor! In about two hours (from the time this posts) at 8 AM, Apple and AT&T Stores in the U.S. will be opening their doors to all of the people willing to sign-up for a two-year contract.

The long-awaited Google Talk for iPhone is finally available, and it's not in the form of an iPhone application. Instead, it's simply a browser app which makes us wonder why it took Google over a year to make something for the iPhone.

With the announcement of the iPhone 3G has come some confusion over who qualifies for an upgrade. This time around the phones are being subsidized by AT&T which means they have control over who gets upgraded pricing and who doesn't. Some current 2G iPhone owners have been confused thinking that they won't be able to get the phones priced at $199 and $299.
