Windows; Mac; Linux Many of you have likely heard of Amarok which is a popular cross-platform music player, and Clementine is a cross platform player that is benefiting from its open source nature. To me it has a clean interface the features people are looking for, such as iPhone syncing.

There have been quite a few video conversion utilities giving away their software for Halloween this year, but to be honest a lot of them aren't that great. I tried one of them today, however, called Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate (retail value of $66) and it is the obvious exception. You can apply for a free license code today only (expires 23:59:59 PM EDT on October 31, 2010).

Control Your House Lights (and more) with Your iPhone

Recently I started to look into ways to make my home a "smart home." I've been wanting to do it for awhile, but had never taken the time to research how easy or complex it was. For some odd reason I had it set in my mind that it would require a lot of additional wiring in my house to get it done, but boy was I wrong.

Backup Music from iPhone or iPod

I've been asked several times how you can get music off of your iPhone or iPod. More often than not it's because something happened to the user's music library on their computer, and they are looking for a way to snag all of their precious music from their iPod before it's completely gone.

Easily Convert Movies to iPhone or iPod MP4 Format

The other day Ward pointed out in the comments a simple little application that's available for Windows users who are looking to convert movies to a video format that the iPhone and iPods can play. We talked about being able to do this using the SUPER video converter, but a lot of you are probably just wanting to go from AVI to MP4. If that's the case the iPodME program is just what you need.

Get Ready for New iPods

Apple is predictable when it comes to iPods. For the last several years, they have launched new iPods in September, conveniently, right before the holiday season. This was the case last year, as well as in 2006 and 2005. Once again this year, in 2008, new iPods are expected. September 9th (a Tuesday) in San Francisco at 10 AM is the big day. So what can we expect?

A Longer/Slimmer iPod nano Coming?

Kevin Rose claims to know what the new iPod nano is going to look like and if he's right, Apple is going back to more of the original look. As you'll see in the photo below, they are ditching the "fat" look and going for a longer/slimmer look:

Apple Acknolwedges Issues with 1st Gen iPod Nano

First generation iPod Nano owners may have a little more to worry about than the simple fact their devices are going on three years old. Japan's trade ministry recently blamed the battery in the 1st gen iPod nano's for causing three fires. In addition to the fires, there were two cases of people getting burned from them, just in Japan.

Dell Will Try to Compete with the iPod, Again…

Some of you may remember when Dell attempted make a name for themselves in the digital music player market by launching a couple of different music players in 2003. And you may remember that in 2006 they decided to end production of both their hard drive and flash-based players because they simply could not compete with Apple and the iPod.

NBC Wants iTunes to be a Piracy Detector

The ad:tech conference is currently going on at the Moscone Center in San Francisco and one of the most interesting things to come out of it came from the mouth of NBC's Chief Digital Officer George Kliavkoff. In a nutshell, he said he wanted Apple to build a piracy detecting iTunes and to offer flexible pricing before NBC would allow their content to return to iTunes. Here's what he said:

Publishers Can Customize iPhone Webclip Icons

One of the big peeves that I had with the new iPhone and iPod Touch firmware update yesterday was that Apple doesn't give much control over the webclip icons. That's when you bookmark a website to the home screen, and the iPhone snaps a screenshot of the upper-left corner of the screen to assign as the icon.

Apple Slaps Clearance Prices on iPods

Apple has always had a "clearance items" section on their site which includes products that are discounted for some reason or another, but it hasn't always included some of the deals that they're currently offering.  If you're considering buying an iPod and you don't care about having the latest generation, you'll certainly want to checkout what they have.

Peggle and Sonic the Hedgehog Come to iPod

About a month ago Ryan introduced me to Peggle, a game from PopCap Games.  He had been playing it and it looked like fun, so I decided I'd try it too.  Little did I know how addicting this game would turn out to be.
