QuickTime Bug Affects Java-Enabled Browsers

I don’t think that anyone likes to hear about security-related bugs because they can get you all worked up. This new bug, however, is the very critical one found by Dino Dai Zovi at the recent Mac Hacking contest. It affects almost anyone that has QuickTime installed, on both Mac OS X and Windows, which is just about everyone with an iPod.

Hack a Mac was an offer that was put out to anybody who thought they could do it.  The prize? A new MacBook, and potentially $10,000. The point? Macs aren’t as secure as everybody thinks and Apple needs to pay more attention to this.

Apple Patches 25 Mac OS X Security Flaws

Apple just got done issuing an update for Mac OS X yesterday that fixed 25 security flaws in the operating system. Many of the bugs being fixed were all found during the “Month of Apple Bugs” from back in January. Luckily there is no record that any hackers attempted to exploit the bugs that were found.

Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Delayed until at least October

The rumors were right, Leopard has been delayed again. This time, until at least October. Apple’s official announcement says:

Google Introduces Google Desktop for Mac

Just today, Google has released Google Desktop for Mac in beta. It will index applications, PDF’s, files supported by Spotlight’s plug-ins, and the history to your web browser which then makes it possible to search.

Office 2008 for Mac Reaches Testing Phase

Office 2008 for Macs is now in the private testing phase, and unfortunately it is still not known whether or not Microsoft will offer a public beta in the future.  The plan as it stands, is that the Mac version will be released in the 2nd half of 2007 which would make it the newest addition since 2004.

Vista pushes back the Mac OS X Leopard Release Date to October?

All sites that mention Apple’s next big operating system release, called Leopard, say that the release will be late April or early May. DigiTimes is going against what the rest of the Internet is speculating by saying that the release date will be in October of 2007.

9000 People Switch to a Mac per day?

According to TUAW.com, they’re saying that the latest numbers suggest that there are around 9,000 new people per day that switch to a Mac. The numbers come from Tom Yager over at InfoWorld who based his calculations upon Steve Jobs’ claim that half of Macs are sold to first-time buyers.
