Would a Subscription-based Microsoft Office be Successful?

It looks as though Microsoft is more than just dabbling with the idea of offering a subscription-based version of Microsoft Office. According to CNet in the next few days they will launch a limited Beta program of a project codenamed Albany.

CyberNotes: Enable Presentation Mode in PowerPoint

I've sat through a lot of PowerPoint presentations before, and one thing that always struck me as interesting was how many people don't take advantage of PowerPoint's special "Presenter's View." It's been around since at least Office 2003, and I've found it to be an incredibly valuable tool when making presentations myself.

Helpful Tip: How to Select Text Vertically in MS Word

I can't tell you how many times I've been writing something or working on a project in Microsoft Word and it would have been helpful to be able to select text vertically. It never occurred to me that it was even possible to do such a thing! To my surprise, I learned that in fact you can select text vertically in Microsoft Word, thanks to an article over at the How-To Geek site.

Free Vista and Office "Giveaways"

If you've been wanting Vista or Microsoft Office but the price is a little to steep to keep you from buying, here's your chance to get it.  Microsoft is "giving away" (and I use that term loosely) a variety of different software including Vista and Office you are willing to participate in their Windows Feedback Program for three months.

Sync Microsoft Office Documents with Google Docs

For those of you who use both Microsoft Office and Google Docs, you're going to love a fairly new web app called DocSyncer. DocSyncer makes it possible to synchronize your Microsoft Office documents with your Google Docs account.  It's pretty genius, isn't it? I'm actually surprised Google hasn't thought to try to implement something like this on their own.

Live Documents is Another Office 2007 Wannabe

Back in April we wrote about Peepel which at the time was a new online-office startup.  They offer a spreadsheet and word processor that look near identical to Office 2007. Considering they haven't updated their blog since August, I'm guessing things aren't going so well for them and they aren't really updating the service.

CyberNotes: Highlight Cells Based on Value in Excel

For some weird reason, I've been a Microsoft Excel addict for as long as I can remember. When I was younger I remember being told by one of my teachers that Excel is one of the most powerful applications available, but most people will never touch it with a ten foot pole.

Consumers Buying Windows Vista? They Sure Are!

The New York Times got it right when they said, "It turns out someone does like Windows Vista, along with Office and the other stuff Microsoft sells." Sure Windows Vista is getting bashed left and right, but people are buying it. In fact, consumers bought $1.1 billion dollars more in software than what analysts had originally projected.

Serious Excel Multiplication Bug Now Fixed

A few weeks ago we reported about a serious excel multiplication bug that was exposed in which Excel 2007 incorrectly multiplied certain numbers. For example, by multiplying 850 by 77.1, you'd receive an answer of 100,000. We know that the answer is really 65,535, and unfortunately, that wasn't the only number that Excel was having issues with.

Word 2007 Viewer Now Available from Microsoft

A few months ago we talked about .docx files in Microsoft Word 2007 and the problems that you could run into if you created a document in and saved it in the .docx format but sent it to someone to read who was using an earlier version of Office. They wouldn't be able to open it unless they used one of the work-around options available.

Download IBM Lotus Symphony Without Registration

IBM has decided that it too wants to offer a free Office suite called Lotus Symphony, and after playing with it for just a short while I have to say that I'm very impressed with the route they have taken. For starters they are working off of the OpenOffice.org technology, which in its current state is leaps and bounds ahead of many Microsoft Office alternatives.
