Opera Mini Continues to Prosper Around the World

The Opera Mini web browser has been able to breathe new life into mobile browsing, and that can obviously be seen in the numbers. According to Opera in June they served up more than 3.2 billion pages, which is a 9.4% increase over the previous month. The number of unique users, however, dropped slightly, but they attribute that to June having one less day compared to May.

Opera Mini was born back in 2005, but it wasn't put into the hands of the public until January 2006. Since that time the browser that fits in your pocket has experienced a tremendous rate of growth. As of March 2008 it has wiggled it's way into the hearts of over 44 million users. Pictured to the right is what their growth rate has looked like since its public launch.

Opera Mini Switching Back to Google

Back in 2007 Opera signed a deal with Yahoo! to make OneSearch the default search engine in Opera Mini. Complaints rolled in from all of the Google fans out there, and Opera has since decided to reunite users with the Google search engine. The change will roll out on March 1st to both new and existing users alike.

Opera Mini for the iPhone?

On Tuesday an Opera developer was asked during an interview if there were any plans to develop the Opera Mini browser for the iPhone later this year when Apple releases the SDK. The developer responded with an enthusiastic "Yes," but didn't expand on it.

Opera Mini 4 was just released today, and it is a huge step forward in mobile web browsing. This is one of the few browsers that offers a full view of the website being requested, much like what you would expect from a desktop browser.

Opera Mini 4 New Feature: PC-View

Speculation is now over as to what the new Opera Mini 4 feature is...PC-like Web browsing! When I first saw this feature I was wondering how well it was going to work, but it is actually really incredible. Just like the iPhone you get a zoomed-out view of a website, and then you can zoom into certain areas of the site by navigating around with the cursor.
