CyberNotes: Cookie Editors in Firefox & Opera

Cookies in web browsers are an easy way for sites to store authentication/login information, settings, and so much more. One of the things that some sites do for security or privacy purposes is force the cookies to expire after a period of time. Sometimes they expire after a day, a week, a year, or when you close your browser.

CyberNotes: History of Web Browsers – Opera, Netscape, Firefox, and IE

Have you ever wondered how browsers have evolved over time? I'm sure many of you can recall using early versions of Netscape as they were pushed out the door, but some of the new features and interface designs have happened so slowly that it may be hard to appreciate the browsers we currently have.

Have you ever been on a page with a ton of animated GIF's, and all you're trying to do is read the content? It can get quite distracting, but if you're using Firefox or Internet Explorer just hit the ESC key. Doing so will immediately pause all of the animated GIF images on the page. Opera Link – Access your Bookmarks Anywhere

It's no surprise that Opera 9.5 can synchronize your bookmarks with an online server, and can therefore give you access to them anywhere when running Opera 9.5! That is one of Opera 9.5's most notable features, and the development team just stepped up their game by launching what's called Opera Link.

Widgets on the Wii with Opera

Nintendo and Opera just launched a new version of Internet Channel for the Wii. It is a free upgrade for all existing users, which is especially nice if you managed to get it for free before June 30. Unfortunately I didn't buy my Wii until after that deadline, and have yet to plop down 500 Wii points (equivalent to $5) for it.

Helpful Tip: Remove Flickr Spaceball.gif in Firefox and Opera

One of the things you may have noticed with Flickr is that the photos will have another image overlaid on top of them called spaceball.gif (here is an example photo) This prevents you from copying the address to the image or being able to save it to your computer.

MyFive: Making Use of Opera’s Speed Dial

One of the new features that Opera 9.2 introduced is called Speed Dial. It's essentially like a customizable homepage except that this takes screenshots of websites, and then places a thumbnail of them aligned to a grid for easy access.

If Imitation is the Best Form of Flattery…

As the saying goes "imitation is the best form of flattery." If there's any truth to that I would have to say that Opera's ego has got to be growing quickly. Why's that? Back in April Opera 9.2 introduced a new feature called Speed Dial. It gives users 9 shortcuts that are aligned in a grid-like fashion for quick access.

The Week of Million Milestones

It has been a pretty big week in terms of milestones. It's not all that often that sites and applications are able to boast their millionth milestones, and so I thought it would be fun to point out all of the things that have happened in the last 7 days:

How Opera 9.5 Synchronization Works

One of the most notable features in the new Opera 9.5 Alpha is synchronization with your free My Opera account. All of your bookmarks, Speed Dial entries, Personal Bar items, and panels are sent to a remote server in Oslo, Norway. You can then access them from any number of computers that you have Opera 9.5 installed on.

Google Reader Gets Search Box!

It was always ironic to me that Google specializes in search, yet they didn't offer a search option in Google Reader. The ability to search through  feeds was one of those things that many Google Reader users said was needed, and now finally it's there.

OS & Browser Stats for Bloggers

WordPress.com is the home of nearly 1.4 million blogs, and in a days time they receive upwards of 12 million pageviews. There’s roughly 75,000 new posts among those blogs each day, along with 30,000 comments (not including the ones caught by Akismet).
