Free Windows System Explorer

Keeping tabs on my machine is something I've done for as long as I can remember. I like watching the performance of my applications, monitoring network connections, and all of that stuff most people would never think twice about.

Browser Comparison: Memory Usage, Speed, Acid 3 Test

Ever since we did a browser comparison test last year there have been a lot of emails and comments asking if we were going to update the article to reflect new releases. I thought about adding in the new browsers as they came out, but decided against it for one reason or another. Instead I thought it would be better to just do a fresh article, and include even more stats than last time.

iPhone 3GS Camera Review

It was a tough decision, but I decided to upgrade my iPhone 3G to the iPhone 3GS. I wasn't sure if the new features would be enough to justify the purchase, but I figured I should be able to sell my iPhone 3G on eBay and recoup a good chunk of the cost. So I pre-ordered the phone, and got it delivered to me last Friday morning.

Comodo Registry Cleaner

Keeping your Windows Registry clean is something that can be quite a chore. Comodo, who happens to make an incredible free firewall tool, also has a free registry cleaner that not many people know about. One thing that I love the most is that you can download the typical installer, or you can grab the portable format that requires no installation.

ESET Smart Security & NOD32 4.0 Beta

ESET NOD32 and Smart Security have always been my favorite security products because of their performance and high detection levels. There's some good news for current owners! ESET is getting ready to move to the next level with version 4 of their security suite and antivirus software.

Foxit Reader 3.0 Released

Adobe has struggled with the performance of Acrobat Reader for quite some time, and that's the main reason I've always found myself using the free Foxit Reader. Plus the fact that they've always offered the PDF reader as a standalone executable has meant that I can carry around the application on my USB drive.

Firefox 3.1 to Get More JavaScript Speed Optimizations

Mozilla is looking to drastically improve the JavaScript performance in Firefox 3.1 when it is released later this year. When Firefox 3 was released back in June it included a significant boost in the JavaScript performance arena, but will they be able to do it again?

USB 3.0 Transfer Speeds are Blazing Fast

Last week Intel unveiled USB 3.0 specs that demonstrates how the next generation USB is going to work. USB 3.0, also known as SuperSpeed USB, is due out in 2009 or 2010. Intel was even kind enough to make the new specification royalty free so that developers don't have to fork out money just to make devices that utilize the new technology.

Adjust and Control the Fan Speed on Your Mac

One of the things that I really like being able to do on my MacBook Pro is monitor the temperature of various parts of my laptop, and also control the speed of the fans. Using the iStat Pro widget (review) I'm able to read the temperature of my hard drive, CPU, GPU, heatsinks, wireless card, and more. If you want you can take it a step further and even control the speed of your fans.

Halite: A Small BitTorrent Client

I've been a big fan of uTorrent for quite some time mostly because of its small size, but there are a lot of features it has that I've never really needed. For example, how often do you look at all of those fancy graphs in uTorrent? If you feel the same way then you might want to checkout the Halite BitTorrent client.

CyberNotes: Performance Monitoring

I'm one of those stat geeks that love to know everything I can about what my computer is doing. It's not that I use the information to do much, but a quick glance at the CPU or memory usage has, at times, helped me figure out why my computer is going so darn slow. For example, a spike in memory usage is typically the result of an app that likely needs to be restarted.

CyberNotes: Firefox 3 Review

It's been a year and a half since Mozilla shipped Firefox 3 Alpha 1, and what we saw initially wasn't very breathtaking. For this first milestone release Mozilla focused on backend improvements that would, in the long run, make the browser a better competitor in a world that is largely dominated by Internet Explorer.
