Picnik Wants You to be a Photo Editing Superstar

In their latest blog entry, the crew over at popular online photo editing service Picnik says they want everybody to be able to be a photo editing superstar. That's why they're making the features that were previously available only to premium users, available to everybody. So how is it that they're able to do this? Well, the site is now ad-supported.

CyberNotes: Advanced Photo Effects

One of the reasons Adobe Photoshop has become so popular is because of all the advanced photo affects that can be applied to images. Over the last few years I've seen a lot of free alternatives emerge onto the scene saving users hundreds of dollars, but many of them don't have the effects and control that I'm looking for.

Fix Blurry Images

There's nothing worse than snapping a once-in-a-lifetime photo just to get home and realize that you weren't holding the camera still enough. Have no fear because there are several different tools that you can use to try and remove the blurry effect. The bad news is that most of them aren't free, but we did manage to find one that is.

Password Protect Your Photos

I'm sure at some point or another you've wanted to password protect a photo that you were sending to someone else. Maybe it was a confidential image that you didn't want to end up in the wrong hands, or a personal photo that you wanted to keep secret.

Flickr Stats for Pro Users

Flickr just announced that Pro members ($25 a year) are now able to keep track of stats for their photos! That's right, you can actually see what photos are popular for today, this week, or over all time. You'll also be able to view where people are coming from that are viewing your photos (what search engines, websites, etc...), and a handy graph will plot your traffic in an easy-to-read fashion.

Flickr Taking Photos on a Picnik

We knew it was coming, and now it's here! Now you can edit the photos you've uploaded to Flickr right Flickr using Picnik, my favorite online photo editing service. The folks at Flickr must have "creating a fantastic experience for our users" at the top of their priority list, because the service continues to get better and better.

Bored? Befuddle Your Images

One of the games that I've always enjoyed doing on the computer are the image puzzles, where you provide an image and it scrambles it all up for you to reorganize. Often times the puzzle only has one blank spot that you can use for sliding around the different puzzle pieces, kind of like this game.

Picnik Photo Editing Firefox Extension

Despite the fact that the list of online image editing services continues to get longer and longer, there is still one that has been sitting at the top of my list for quite a while - Picnik. We first wrote about Picnik back in April, and since then, it has managed to get better and better.

Convert Images into Vectors

Have you ever had a photo that you wish you could blow up to a much larger size? Doing something like that would require a vector image, which is a graphic format that has no size limitation. You're in luck because there is a new service in town, called VectorMagic, that will take your regular images and do its best to convert it into a vector graphic.

CyberNotes: Create a LightBox Photo Gallery

One of the hot new ways for viewing photos is using a JavaScript technique called LightBox. I'm sure you've seen it before on sites where you click on a thumbnail, and a fullsize version of the image is superimposed on the page that your viewing. It then grays out the background so that it's easy for the viewer to focus on the image.

JAlbum Launches Image Hosting Solutions

JAlbum is a free cross-platform program that I've been using for years, and before I got my Flickr account it was my only way to share digital photos with my family. I had a computer at my house being used to serve up the photos to anyone that requested them, but Flickr was too great of a deal to pass up.

Rsizr – Online Image Scaling Done Right!

A few weeks ago I wrote about a free application called Liquid Resize that implemented the much acclaimed seam carving (also known as content aware image resizing). It is pumped with features, and it has already had a couple of more updates from time I wrote the article.

CyberNotes: Photo Seam Carving using Liquid Resize

Seam carving (also known as content aware image resizing) has been the hit lately when it comes to photo editing. It all started with the presentation by Ariel Shamir who put together a nearly breathtaking demo. In it he showed how scaling images could be done without losing or distorting the important aspects of photos.

Online Photoshop Express Image Editor

Adobe announced back in March that they intended to create an online Photoshop that is geared towards home and casual computer users. The solution that they came up with, called Photoshop Express, will offer a simplistic interface that is free for everyone to use. However, it will be ad supported (I'm guessing that's what the box in the bottom-right corner of the screenshot is for).
