Going along with our recent poll, here's another question for you. How many of you that own an Xbox 360, also own or owned at one point the original Xbox? According to Chris Satchell of Microsoft, he's saying that so far, 10.4 million Xbox 360 units have been sold. But, even more interesting is that he says over half of those have come from people that never owned the original Xbox.
Sony originally forecasted that 400,000 PlayStation 3 consoles would be sold on launch day. Launch day came and went, and not even half of the projected amount were sold.
I am still stuck in the days of the original Xbox but one thing that I have noticed over time is that in-game advertising has been increasing. I have never really paid attention to these ads because that is not where my focus is supposed to be.
The PS3 launched just about a month ago on November 17th. When it launched, people who managed to get their hands on one of the prized possessions but didn't really want it, managed to make a hefty profit by selling on eBay.
About a week ago Paul Thurrott put together a great feature comparison guide for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and the Wii. He highlights many of the features that tech enthusiasts love to know about, like the processors and included RAM.
It has almost been a week and it looks like the sales of PS3's and Wii's have dwindled down a bit on eBay. I have seen some of the Playstation 3's go for as low as $850 which is just a few hundred above the actual cost of the system. That's not that bad considering the fact that the "real" sales on eBay were previously going for around $3000.
Bryan sent me an email wondering how he could get a PowerPC friendly Linux distro running on the new PlayStation 3. Unfortunately (or fortunately because of the horrendous price) I don't have a PlayStation 3 to try to figure it out but people are getting Fedora Linux on it without too much trouble.
So the Playstation 3 gaming machine is finally out! Millions of people have stood outside stores and malls for hours upon hours just to be one of the first to get their hands on the $600 PS3. From the looks of it there are around 8,000 of those people who didn't even buy the system for themselves!
Just when you thought you were a mad gamer because you had a few different systems! The picture above is from Joystiq's contest and this was the winner who had 32 systems and 21 of them are actually hooked up.
Microsoft was able to release the Xbox 360 last year before the holiday rush hit, but the demand for the game console was much higher than what was supplied. The result was $400 systems being sold on eBay for thousands of dollars!
It looks like Sony will be able to market the upcoming Playstation 3 as a "medical miracle" because of its integration with folding@home. BBC News is reporting that the PS3, which is scheduled for release in November, can be setup to donate the system's idle time to the folding@home project.
It looks like Europeans are getting some good news because Play.com started accepting pre-orders for the Playstation 3. The system is expected to be available in the UK around November 17, 2006 but this is just an estimated date. Since there will be overwhelming demand for the Playstation 3 they do not guarantee that you will receive it by Christmas.
The PS3 start-up screen has been revealed! Before new items are released, screen shots are always leaked on the web. You'll have to check this one out, it definitely caught my eye! Click here to view it! Now what do you think about that?
Rumors about the price and the release date of Playstation 3 are constantly floating around the Internet. This rumor doesn't really state anything we haven't already heard, but it is a little more reassuring that this information may not be just a rumor.
