Windows only I never thought I'd find a file archiver that I liked better than 7-Zip, but the interface provided by Hamster ZIP Archiver has really won me over. Not only can you compress files as both ZIP and 7Z formats, but it also looks great while it is doing the dirty work.

Core Temp is an app that true geeks sill surely love. It really only does one thing, but does it very well: it reports on the temperature of your processor, and can even grab the temperature of each individual core. A list of the supported processors (current as of September 2010) can be found below, and if yours is on the list I'd say you're in for a real treat.

We already know that Steve Jobs is on the verge of being a control freak, so the news coming from Forbes today that Apple has agreed to purchase a microprocessor design company makes sense. The company is P.A. Semi, and it's rumored that Apple is willing to spend $278 million dollars in cash to acquire them.

It was no surprise that AMD posted a loss for the first quarter. However, their loss was quite a bit more than expected– $611 million. There are plenty of factors that contribute to this loss, but I think Intel’s Core 2 Duo processor definitely could have contributed to it.
