CyberNotes: Best Desktop Feed Reader

I've come across a lot of great feed readers before, but I don't believe any of them match up to a new one that I was introduced to by Pieter in the CyberNet Forum. It's called Newzie (Windows-only), and it has a strong focus on making feed reading as easy as possible.

Vista Virtual Desktops on XP, too!

Back in July we created a screencast of a great freeware app called Vista Virtual Desktops that made use of Vista's advanced Aero interface. The program has since gotten a much requested upgrade which includes support for the Windows XP operating system.

CyberNotes: Top 15 Ultra Tiny Apps

Hard drives are becoming huge these days, and most applications have begun to make use of the abundant space that barely ever gets filled up. I’m a big proponent to full-featured applications as long as they serve a purpose, but size isn’t always the best representation of quality. To prove that, I set out to find 15 top-notch apps that take up little to no room on your hard drive.

CyberNotes: Wii Locators and our Wii Review

It’s been about a week and a half since we became the proud owners of a Nintendo Wii. There was a lot that factored into the decision of us purchasing a Wii, and before you go thinking that we are Nintendo fanboys I’ll let you know that we own the original Playstation and the original Xbox.

Monitor Sites for Changes with Mr. Uptime

There is a cool Firefox extension available called Mr. Uptime. With it you can monitor sites that are currently not available, and it will notify you when the site is back up and running. I’m guessing that this is going to appeal the most to the Digg crowd since they constantly encounter sites that collapse under heavy load.

Best Linux Antivirus – Kaspersky, Clam, & Norton

If you’re running Linux the chances are probably pretty good that you’re not using an antivirus application. This is a common practice among personal Linux users since viruses aren’t as rampant as they are on Windows.

CyberNotes: How to get Bigger Thumbnails in the Vista Taskbar

One of the nice features that you get in Windows Vista with the Aero interface are thumbnails of running applications. These thumbnails are seen when you perform an Alt-Tab, and we’ve already shown you how you can increase the size of those.

Gyration Media Center Remote Review

A few days ago I had the pleasure of getting my hands on a specialized Media Center remote by Gyration. If it sounds familiar, that’s because this is the same remote control that Alienware includes with their Hangar18 Media Center PC. So what makes this remote control so much better than any other?

CyberNotes: Interclue Puts the Information at your Fingertips

I came across an extension the other day that I think is going to become very popular, extremely fast. It’s called Interclue and it is a cross between Snap Shots, Cooliris, Link Alert, and iReader...and it may very well be one of the best Firefox add-ons that I have seen.

iPhone Reviewer Says Internet “Excruciatingly Slow”

It’s time for your daily fix of iPhone updates!  The first reviews are in from The Wall Street Journal (Walt Mossberg), The New York Times (David Pogue), USA Today (Ed Baig), and Newsweek (Steven Levy), and overall I’d say the reviewers were pretty impressed and generally had nothing but good things to say about the phone.

Alienware m5550 Notebook Computer Review

I’ve been wanting to get into reviewing computer hardware, but I wasn’t quite sure where to start. Finally I decided on laptops, and while there are some great sites out there that review them, none of the reviewers use them for an extended period of time.

CyberNotes: Using GigaTribe to Share Files

File sharing is becoming huge, and better ways for sharing files are emerging as more people start joining in on the fun. Up until about a year ago, FTP’s were the best way to share large files that couldn’t fit in an email, but now there are things like AllPeers for Firefox and Xdrive for online storage. There is also another one called GigaTribe that I wanted to point out today.

New Antivirus Rankings…Kaspersky Still on Top

One of the most popular articles on CyberNet is in regards to the best antivirus software. More than 160,000 people have read that article, and so I thought it is a good time to write a follow-up on it.

Making the Switch to Vista

I have heard a lot of criticism about Windows Vista, which has caused a lot of people to second guess whether they should make the upgrade. I have had both visitors of the site, family, and friends all ask me whether they should upgrade to Vista…and my response each time is “will you benefit from it?”
