MyFive: Services Google Should Introduce

With Google's latest project called Lively being released this week, we thought we'd take a look at some of the services that they should introduce. Google seems to want to cover every topic out there, and we're sure eventually they will.

Ask.com Chooses Microsoft for Online Map Provider

In a somewhat interesting move Ask.com ditched their own mapping service today, and has teamed up with Microsoft to use their Virtual Earth service. The switchover has already been made, and you can see the new service up and running over at Ask City. Most people, however, probably won't notice the switch since nothing feels any different than it did.

Google Docs Adds PDF Upload Support

We knew it was coming, but it's not even close to everything we were hoping it would be. Google announced just a short while ago that Google Docs users could begin uploading, storing, and reading PDF's on their Google account. It's nothing fancy, and for the most part it does the basic things you would expect from an online PDF viewer.

Instant Google Results in the Firefox 3 Location Bar

One of the my favorite things in Firefox and Opera is having the ability to perform searches right from the location bar using keywords. In fact I've always removed the search box from the browser simply because I never use it. But when I found out about the Peers extension I thought it was going to be the extension that would actually get me to use the search box once and for all. I was wrong.

Peers: Like Inquisitor for Firefox

You might recall that earlier in the month Yahoo! purchased a popular Safari add-on called Inquisitor. With it users could start typing in the browser's search box, and instantly see search results from a menu that popped down. What I was really hoping for was that a Firefox developer would take that idea and run with it.

CyberNotes: Get the Best eBay Deals

I don't know about you, but I've gotten some really tremendous deals on eBay before. The general consensus that I've found when talking with people, however, is that they normally make impulse purchases before they take the time to see if they are getting a real bargain. Today we're going to walk you through a 5 step process that can save you a lot of money in the end.

Quickly Search for Available Domain Names

If you've ever purchased a domain name you know what a hassle it can be to find one that's available. So many of them are not available that it often takes dozens of searches to get one that you actually want. Domize is an excellent free service that might just take the pain and frustration out of searching for the domains though.

Yahoo Protects Users From Dangerous Search Results

Yahoo, just like Google, has decided that they need to start taking steps to protect users from malicious search results that they might be serving up. They're calling the new feature SearchScan, and it is powered by McAfee's SiteAdvisor.

Evernote Beta Available to Everyone, Today Only!

Back in February we took a look at the Evernote Beta that introduces an online synchronization aspect that plays nicely with their desktop offerings. After just two months of the Beta they have hit a huge milestone: 1 million notes have been posted! They've decided that a good way to celebrate the milestone would be to let anyone and everyone register for the Beta by visiting this "secret" site.

What do you use Search Engines for?

Penn State recently published  the results from a study which classifies web searchers.  They say that people mainly use web search engines for three main purposes, thus searchers are divided into three different categories. The three main categories are:

Vista Search Index Gadget: Pause & Start Indexing

Finally! Well over a year ago I wrote about how a Microsoft blog was outlining how to make a Vista "PowerToy" gadget. The gadget that they were using for their demonstration was a Vista Search Index controller where you could pause or start indexing on-demand. For one reason or another the gadget was never actually released... until now!

CyberNotes: Top 5 Firefox Extensions for Searching

Firefox has obviously gained a lot of popularity because of what an extensible browser it has become. Our article last week about getting Safari-styled inline searching is a prime example of that. You can customize nearly any aspect of it thanks to thousands of extensions and scripts that have been created by developers, and one of our goals is to point you towards the best ones.

CyberNotes: Safari 3 Style Inline Search in Firefox

One of the things that I've always enjoyed in Safari 3 is the inline search interface, and just the other day I thought I would peruse around the Internet trying to find a way to do the same thing in Firefox. Why is searching special in Safari? Because it dims the background of the page that you're on, and highlights the matching results as you type.

New Firefox Add-ons Site Launches

Mozilla has just launched their new Firefox Add-ons site that shows off a sparkling and freshly revamped interface. Back in February we took a glimpse at what a preview of the new add-ons site had to offer, and overall I would say that it is a really nice improvement over the prior version.

Indeed… a Job Search

If you've told yourself that it was time for a new job, but you just haven't taken the time to go through the process, listen up.  A service called Indeed will help you immensely in your search for a new job, no matter what type of job that you're looking for.  The reason that it's so helpful compared to other career services like Monster or Hot Jobs is that it includes listings from job boards, newspapers, and company employment sites.  This means all of the jobs are in one location which saves you time and the hassle of jumping from one source to another.

YouTorrent: Best Torrent Search Engine

I was disappointed, and still am, that Demonoid was shutdown. It was always my best source for BitTorrent files anywhere on the Internet. After that happened I was a straggler between the Torrent search engines. I would primarily use the Pirate Bay and MiniNova, but there wasn't one site that really felt convenient.
