Simple Virtual Desktops for Windows 7

Windows only I've always felt like Windows would benefit from a native virtual desktop implementation, but that is something Microsoft has yet to provide. There are plenty of third-party apps that can add this to just about any Windows operating system, but more often than not they aren't that great.

Pin Folders and Custom Shortcuts to Windows 7 Taskbar

Windows only I'm a huge fan of the new-style Taskbar in Windows 7 and am regularly pinning apps to make them easier to access. The downside is that there are some things Microsoft prevents you from adding to the Taskbar though, but as you'd expect there are plenty of workarounds for that. One nice utility is the Windows 7 Taskbar Items Pinner that lets you do exactly what the name implies.

Windows 7 Jumplist Launcher

I am a big fan of the redesigned Taskbar in Windows 7 because it provides faster access to the things I want/need, and one of the ways it does that is through the jumplists that appear whenever you right-click on an icon regardless of whether the app is actually running.

Get the Windows 7 Taskbar for XP

One of my favorite features in Windows 7 has to be the redesigned Taskbar. The entire user experience is so smooth, and I think they really went down the right path with it. Will Windows 7 Taskbar Shortcuts Replace System Tray Icons?

In Windows 7 Microsoft has significantly changed the way the Taskbar works, and it's starting to make me wonder if a lot of the items sitting in the System Tray might work their way out onto the Taskbar. What do I mean? A good example is this Gmail Notifier that gHacks found.

Hide the Start Button in Windows XP

When you're working with a small screen space it's nice to try and squeeze everything you can out of it. That's especially true when you've got a device like the Eee PC who's 7" screen has an 800x480 maximum resolution. As you can imagine you're Taskbar would fill up after opening just a few applications at a resolution like that.

Windows Longhorn Concept Taskbar

One thing that many Vista complaints have in common is that they nearly all say that "it's not Longhorn." That's true, Microsoft made a lot of changes along the road of Vista's development, and they burned through new concepts faster than a Hummer burns through a gallon of gas.

CyberNotes: Pie Menus Increase your Productivity

I’ve been doing a lot of talking about pie menus lately, and several people have contacted us wondering what they actually are. Most of the time I mention them when referring to Windows 7, which is the codename of Vista’s successor. With the possibility of Windows 7 receiving an interface overhaul, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least to see pie menus being used.
