Huge news broke this morning when information got leaked to the press regarding an acquisition of The Pirate Bay. It's said that they got $7.8 million for the site which will be turned over to the buyers, Global Gaming Factory X, in August.
One of the things that is always hard about downloading from the BitTorrent network is trying to figure out what's legit and what's not. A lot of times I rely on the comments from other people to tell me whether the content is what it should be, or whether someone is trying to play a cruel trick.
The open-source file sharing application Shareaza has been going through some tough times lately. They had their domain hijacked by a company called Discordia Ltd. back in December 2007, which is the same company who turned Bearshare and iMesh into paid services. On the Shareaza.com site they then started offering an app called "Shareaza 4" that promotes legal downloads.
As a recent college graduate I look back now astonished at how many thousands of dollars I spent buying books over the four-years I was at school. It didn't matter if the books were new or used, either way you had to fork out an arm and a leg for materials that hardly even got used.
There is a common misconception that the only torrents available are of pirated music, movies, and software. While a bulk of the traffic shared between the BitTorrent network is illegal, there are also some ways that it is used for good. For example, the BitTorrent network serves as a great way for Linux distributions to share new releases.
If you have ever switched to a new operating system you know how tricky it can be to find certain applications to replace the ones that you had. That's why today we wanted to point out five excellent BitTorrent solutions that each run on Windows, Mac, and Linux.
It was just last Friday that Demonoid was resurrected, and staying true to our promise we're giving away the 5 invites that we have! Demonoid is a private invite-only BitTorrent service that has an amazing community, and we're happy to offer some of our readers a chance to be a part of it.
We wrote about the YouTorrent site a few months ago because it really stood out from the crowd. It quickly became one of my favorite torrent search engines since it gathered results from a dozen or so different sources in real-time. It definitely lacks some of the advanced search features that many of you love, but in the end I was content with what it had to offer.
The title says it all! Demonoid, a BitTorrent tracker, has been down since November 2007 when the Canadian Recording Industry forced them to close their doors. TorrentFreak reported today that the site would be resurrected under a new administrator, but I don't think anyone was expecting that it would happen so quickly.
The Pirate Bay is a torrent site that has been through just about everything you can imagine, and yet the site is still available. Now they are jumping through some hoops again, and this time there are four workers being charged with "assisted copyright infringement".
Demonoid, a popular invite-only BitTorrent tracker, seems to be swimming in some murky waters lately. At the end of September Demonoid was forced to temporarily shutdown by the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA), which is equivalent to America's RIAA. They came back online a few days later after installing a system to block all Canadian traffic.

Microsoft has taken the lid off of Vista SP1 (Service Pack 1) by releasing a detailed report of what to expect when it is released. This announcement comes the same day that Microsoft pushed out two of the most important updates since Vista’s release, both of which make significant improvements to the usability of Vista.
It’s hard to believe that after being shutdown for 3-years SuprNova is back up again. Thanks to the Pirate Bay I’ve since been reunited with this long lost friend, who has even been spruced up a bit since I had used it last!

Windows Vista SP1 was known to be in the hands of testers just a few weeks ago, and much like XP SP3 it has been leaked in full form on the file sharing networks. Microsoft was actually pretty smart by making the general public cringe at the idea of installing a leaked copy of Vista SP1. Why? They only offered it to testers as a full 3.1GB Vista installation instead of as a standalone update.
