It seems as though all of the hype over Joost has settled down, way down. In fact, it’s been a while since I’ve seen Joost in the news, until today. This week Joost and VH1 are expected to announce an unprecedented arrangement that may just give Joost a nice boost.

Last night, Google announced that they have branded the Personalized Homepage as iGoogle. This shorthand has been used around the Googleplex for a while now. It’s definitely much easier to refer to it as iGoogle versus Google Personalized Homepage.

Yahoo has landed a big advertising deal with Viacom to provide contextual ads for 33 Viacom websites like MTV.com, VH1.com, Comedycentral.com, etc. This is a multi-year deal that could potentially expand to 140 additional Viacom websites all over the World.
Clearly Google wouldn’t have been Viacom’s first choice for an ad service, not after they’re seeking $1 billion in damages for copyright infringement.

When Viacom pulled out the carpet underneath YouTube, I’m sure YouTube wasn’t expecting it was because there was someone else coming into the picture. Viacom left, and headed on over to Joost which is just getting their start. On the Joost site, they say that they’re a new way of watching TV on the Internet with channels, programs, and adverts.
So now just a couple of weeks after Viacom ordered
Viacom who owns brands like BET, MTV, VH1, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, Spike TV and several others, has demanded that YouTube remove 100,000 videos. That's over 1.2 billion streams that are to be removed immediately. According to several sources, Viacom had been negotiating with YouTube for several months. Apparently there were disagreements or the deal wasn't going anywhere for Viacom to make such a demand.
