The last time we mentioned Microsoft's I'm initiative was just a couple of weeks ago when they announced that they had already raised $1.3 million dollars in a year. While impressive, reader "Iain Purdie" noted that this initiative is only available in the United States.

At last, Microsoft has launched @live.com email addresses! These addresses were originally rumored to launch back in June of 2006 but ended up being a no-show. Between then and now there have been multiple "tricks" or loopholes that were found (here, here, here, and here) which allowed people to create accounts before they actually launched like I did (notice the "registered since" date):

I'm not sure if you should be getting your hopes up quite yet, but rumors have started to circulate around the Internet that Microsoft will be opening up the @live.com email addresses tomorrow for public registration. There is no official word from Microsoft that this will be happening, but the timing sounds about right.

Just last week we wrote about a service Yahoo! provides that lets you bring your existing emails, contacts, and calendar from your existing email account. The only problem, as my brother pointed out when using it, is that you could get locked out of your Gmail account temporarily because of the heavy access:

Finally, there’s an update regarding the @live.com email addresses! Last year around this time, it was rumored that they were going to be released. We waited, and waited, and nothing ever came of it.
