Windows Live Photo Gallery Will Get Facial Recognition Soon

Microsoft has done a fantastic job with Windows Live Photo Gallery, and it's definitely become my favorite way to manage photos. There's been no mention as to when the next version of Windows Live Photo Gallery will be coming out, but one thing that you can look forward to is facial recognition.

10% off eBay Purchases through Microsoft Cashback

This is pretty big news coming from eBay and Microsoft. Remember just a few weeks ago when we wrote about Microsoft forking out money to lure in search users with their new program called Cashback? Well now they've partnered with eBay to offer the same cashback rewards to buyers on eBay who use the "Buy it Now" option after clicking on an eBay paid search advertisement.

Day of Deals: Free WinRAR & OneCare

--WinRAR--

Over in our forum Max noticed that it was possible to get a free version of WinRAR compliments of PC Welt (the German edition of PC World Magazine). It's been nearly two years since a free version of WinRAR was being handed out, and it's coming back around once again. This time, however, you don't get the absolutely latest version of the app.

Microsoft FolderShare Beta

Last year I wrote about how to use a service Microsoft acquired back in 2005 called FolderShare. It's purpose is to keep directories/files on multiple computers in sync with each other without needing a remote server to host any of the files. That way the user's computers are really the only limitation as to what can be shared.

Microsoft’s Plans to Take On Flickr

A new Microsoft job advertisement gives us a glimpse into Microsoft's plans to take on Flickr- yes, they're moving on to photos! You can't tell me that you didn't know this was coming given that Microsoft already took on YouTube (or tried to) with Soapbox. Flickr has become one of the more popular photo solution on the web that it only makes sense that Microsoft would try their hand at this too.

Consumers Buying Windows Vista? They Sure Are!

The New York Times got it right when they said, "It turns out someone does like Windows Vista, along with Office and the other stuff Microsoft sells." Sure Windows Vista is getting bashed left and right, but people are buying it. In fact, consumers bought $1.1 billion dollars more in software than what analysts had originally projected.

Free Online Translator Offered From Windows Live

Go take a look at translator.live.com or translate.live.com and you'll notice that the Windows Live Translator is now live! Microsoft hasn't made any official announcement regarding it, but it's there in beta, and it works (most of the time). Alta Vista's Babel Fish Translation was probably one of the first more well-known translation services, but many more have popped up since it first launched.

New Live Installer, Live Writer, & Photo Gallery

It looks like Microsoft is pulling a Google and offering their most popular apps in a unified package. Well, it's not exactly like the Google Pack because Microsoft is only including their own homegrown programs, whereas Google also includes some third-party software (such as Norton and Skype).

Microsoft Shows off their 3D Maps

Microsoft is refusing to be shown up by Google today with the Street View maps, so they too have launched a big addition to their Virtual Earth 3D mapping solution. Unlike Google Earth, Virtual Earth is not an entirely separate application. It is an addition to the Internet Explorer and Firefox Web browsers which adds 3D viewing capabilities for Windows Live Maps.
