NVIDIA Drivers Cause 29% of Vista Crashes

Those of you experiencing crashes in Vista may not actually have Microsoft to blame. As many of you know there is currently a class action lawsuit going on regarding what Microsoft classifies as "Vista Capable." MyFive: Reasons I Love Windows Vista Media Center

I've had a Vista machine setup for over a year whose sole purpose is to record my television shows, and I have to say that I've fallen deeply in love with it. Prior to owning the Vista Media Center computer I was using a ReplayTV unit to do the recording, and I didn't think that it got much better than that.

CyberNotes: Multiple Tuners in Vista Media Center (MCE)

I've been using a Vista Media Center computer for over a year to record all of my favorite shows, and overall I have been really impressed with it. The commercial skipping add-on is a real gem, and the WebGuide add-on makes it possible to access and schedule shows no matter where I am.

Microsoft Pushes Out Vista Exploit Detector Update

We knew that Microsoft was getting ready to crack down on Vista piracy even more so than it did in Vista SP1, and that day is upon us. All Vista users will see a new update that is classified as , and once you proceed with the update it will check to see if your system has been activated using a known exploit.

Before you shrug this off as a repeat of our Previous Versions review, you might want to read on. AltTab Mouse Shortcut

Ever since I released the Vista Flip3D mouse shortcut I've received a few emails from people who still prefer the Alt+Tab application switching (especially XP users who don't have Flip3D). I have since modified my Flip3D AutoHotkey script, and spun it into a different variation that works great with the Alt+Tab key combination.

CyberNotes: Rotate Your Screen Orientation

Whenever I'm at home I hookup my laptop to a secondary 24" monitor to drastically increase the amount of screen space available to me. When I'm working on programming projects I will rotate my monitor so that it is oriented vertically (a.k.a. portrait mode), which I think is something most programmers do when they have widescreen monitors.

CyberNotes: A Visual Tour of Windows 1.01 – Vista

Over the course of the years as Microsoft has launched new versions of Windows, there have been three things (among many, really) that have consistently changed: the start-up screen, the calculator, and the program manager/Start menu.  Thanks to a site I recently came across called Guidebook Gallery, I was able to get screenshots of all three from most versions of Windows starting at 1.01.

CyberNotes: Vista Program Compatibility Mode

One of the biggest complaints that people have with Vista is that many of their applications don't work like they do in XP. Your program compatibility woes can possibly be solved in just a few clicks by utilizing the built-in "Compatibility Mode" option. What some people don't realize is that the Compatibility Mode can also serve other purposes.

Don’t Highlight Extensions When Renaming Files

One of the things that I always do on a fresh Windows installation is have it show the extensions on all of my files. I'm not sure how many of you do this, but it seems like I'm changing around extensions quite frequently so it makes a lot of sense for me.

"Watch Now" Streaming in Media Center with MyNetflix Plug-in

Netflix subscribers and Windows Vista Media Center users now have at their disposal an awesome plug-in that is available as a public beta.  It's hard to believe that this hasn't been done before (at least to my knowledge) because it's extremely useful.

Customize Cursors with CursorFX

Stardock just released a new cursor management program called CursorFX (previously known as CursorXP). It is designed so that users can install any of the hundreds of cursor themes that have been created. One of my personal favorites is Uista, which is particularly slick on Vista.

CyberNotes: Skip Commercials in Windows Media Center

We've been using the Windows Vista Media Center as our primary way to record shows for about a year now, and our experience has been really good. It's a lot like Tivo, but one thing that really makes me love the Vista Media Center is its extensibility. Yes, third-party developers can create awesome apps that leverage off of your Media Center's capabilities.

1-Year Vista Vulnerability Analysis

Jeff Jones, the Security Strategy Director for Microsoft's Trustworthy Computing group, has assembled a 1-year analysis of Vista's vulnerabilities. In his 6-month review Vista came out on top when pitted up against other operating systems, and stretching the timeline out over a 1-year period didn't yield any different results.

Dell and Microsoft Join in on (PRODUCT)RED

Microsoft and Dell have just announced that they are teaming up to join in on (PRODUCT)RED.  As many of you probably already know, it is an initiative started by U2's Bono and another man, Bobby Shriver, and the purpose is to raise money for the global fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.   Several other companies like Apple, Gap, and American Express have already been participating for quite some time since the project launched two years ago.

iPhone as a SideShow Competitor? I Think So!

Earlier today I was over at jkOnTheRun and read something that really caught my attention. It was an observation that the iPhone could potentially turn out to be a Vista SideShow Competitor. Now, before we get into the details of how the iPhone work great as a Vista SideShow competitor, I thought we'd review exactly what it was first. On Microsoft's website, they explain it as the following:
