In the past I've never used a Beta version of WordPress on this blog, but I normally give them all whirl in a test environment to make sure they don't leave me begging for mercy in the end.

It has taken a little while to get to this point, but WordPress 2.5 was released earlier this weekend. The biggest thing about the new version is the completely revamped administration area (). It not only has a new color scheme, but has also been reworked to make you even more productive.

The WordPress team has decided to skip version 2.4 and move right on to 2.5, which is now expected to be released in March. Once released the updated version will cover a big area that hasn't received a lot of attention before: the admin screen.

Chyrp: A WordPress Replacement?

There's a new blogging engine on the block, and it's simple and clean. It's called Chyrp and it was designed to be light as far as weight is concerned, but still full of functionality. Could this engine end up moving in on WordPress's territory? I think it's possible, but it would definitely take some time before people felt confident enough to make the switch.
