Extend Browser Capability with BrowserPlus from Yahoo

Last year on May 31st we saw Google push Google Gears out the door, their open source browser extension project. One of their goals with the project was to provide a way for web applications to interact naturally with your desktop. More recently they decided to drop the "Google" part of the name and just go by "Gears" so that people realize that it's for everyone to get involved with.

Use Yahoo! Mail or Gmail for MailTo Links in Firefox 3

Earlier this week we showed you how you could take advantage of Firefox 3's built-in support for web applications. To be more specific we demonstrated how you can preview iCal calendars using 30boxes.com, and thanks to Lifehacker it looks like you can do the same thing for MailTo links.

Zoho Now Accepts Google & Yahoo Logins

Zoho took a pretty big leap today, and it will likely pay off in big ways for them. What they decided to do is leverage Google and Yahoo's rapidly growing user base to help attract new users. How so? Instead of having to create a Zoho account new (and existing) users can simply login using their Google or Yahoo credentials.

Mac only Yahoo has made an acquisition today that will probably catch some Mac users off guard. They bought the rights to a Safari add-on called Inquisitor, which is pictured to the right.

Walking Away All Part of Ballmer’s Tactic?

When Steve Ballmer walked away from the table on Saturday and withdrew Microsoft's bid to acquire Yahoo, was this all part of his tactic to ensure that he ends up with Yahoo in the end? Without knowing who said what, this whole situation has turned into a silly game of "well Ballmer said this," and "well Yang said that." Ballmer said Yang was the one that wasn't willing to negotiate while Yang says he was in fact willing to negotiate and $37 per share wasn't the lowest he'd go.

Yahoo Stock: How Low Can It Go?

How low can Yahoo stock go now that Microsoft has formally withdrawn their bid to acquire Yahoo? Thus far, Yahoo stock is down to $23.90, a drop of about 16% and the day has just started.

Tech Tops the Top 100 Brands List

Any successful business owner knows that one of the most important aspects to any business is branding which goes hand-in-hand with marketing. When a company or product has been successfully branded, people will be able to recognize it and will be more likely to use it because it's familiar (brand loyalty).

Earth Day Celebrated Around the Web

Today is April 22nd which means it's Earth Day in many countries around the World. It all started in 1970 when the first Earth Day was celebrated to coincide with the environmental movement. Around the web you'll find a handful of different sites celebrating the day by changing their logo. Social Web Browser Flock even launched a new "Eco-edition" of their browser just in time for the day.

Claws Come Out: Yahoo "Partners" with Google

And the ridiculousness continues... you'd think companies this size, the size of Yahoo and Microsoft, wouldn't need to stoop so low, but it's happening. Yesterday Yahoo announced that they were going to test out Google's AdSense for their search service. Yes, you read that right, Yahoo is "partnering" with Google.

Flickr Video Arrives… with Limitations

Back in mid-March this year, we wrote about a rumor that Flickr Video would be here sometime in April. Well, it's April and as it turns out, the rumor was true. Flickr Video has launched. It launched yesterday, and so far it's received some mixed reviews from people disappointed about some of the limitations that have been put in place for the new service.

Microsoft and Yahoo are Battling it Out

Microsoft and Yahoo are at it again with this whole acquisition thing, and this time we find it a bit humorous. It started out on Saturday when Microsoft posted a press release with a letter that Steve Ballmer sent to Yahoo.  Yahoo responded of course, and they too posted their letter in a press release.

Digsby: A Nice Cross-Network Messenger

I've been meaning to give Digsby a spin ever since the public Beta was released about two weeks ago. It looked like it was a well designed cross-network (and cross-platform) instant messenger, and it offered quite a few features that no other instant messengers have touched on before. And after having used it for only about 30 minutes I think I may have found myself a new messenger.

CyberNotes: Informer is the Ultimate Yahoo Widget

It's not often that I come across a single widget/gadget that is good enough to constitute it's own article, and I never expected to find one that would be good enough for its own CyberNotes article. When I tried out Informer, a Yahoo Widget, I was absolutely blown away at everything it could do. It's almost an entire application in itself!

Yahoo Moves Logo to Front and Center

In the past, Yahoo has always kept their logo at the front and center of their homepage with the search bar located right underneath.  This is the way it was every since they launched until they changed it back in 2006. At that point they unveiled a completely new design that moved their logo to the upper left corner of the page.

Yahoo + Semantic Web = The Future

The Yahoo Search Blog has made a big announcement yesterday that discussed their support for semantic web standards. The "semantic web" is often classified as the next big thing for the Internet, but the problem is that not everyone has taken the time to understand the benefits. With Yahoo jumping on semantic web bandwagon it is sure to start picking up steam.

Yahoo Messenger for Vista Beta Coming Soon…

Back in December, Yahoo released a preview release of Yahoo Messenger for Vista. That preview release affirmed to us that this special version just for Vista actually was coming and they hadn't forgotten about it. At that point, it was just a preview and nothing more. The good news today is that Yahoo Messenger for Vista is finally headed for Beta.

CyberNotes: Search Engines Around the World

It's always been interesting to take a look at different web sites from around the world to see not only their written language, but also the difference in looks. Today we thought we'd take a look at homepages around the world for search engines Google, Yahoo, and MSN. When we say a difference in looks, the Japan and Korea Google sites  are great examples.
