I have heard people starting to compare Technorati to Alexa, where the stats aren't necessarily accurate. After all, can the number of links to a site really measure popularity? That's like saying the number of apples on a tree represent how good that tree is. But what if all of those apples are wrotten?

But what is Technorati Authority worth these days? A lot less than it used to be in my opinion.

Techcrunch also believes that technorati's latest move amounts to admitting defeat to google.
I beg to differ. I find myself using Technorati blogsearch quite often (I use google too - infact I have added both to my Opera Search bar) and it is not going to die anytime soon. Bloggers are still fighting to increase their technorati authority.
Next up, this move by technorati is not an response to google universal search. It must have taken months to plan and develop the new refreshed technorati.
