Its about 2-3 years old and i'm facing exactly the same problem. The wireless stops working and then the motherboard packs up. Also im facing an over heating problem which shuts it down after only a few minutes of use. I highly recommend against buying a HP laptop I have a HP pavillion too. When I called the manufacturer, I was brow beaten into not sending it in. I had to pack it myself, and if I made a mistake, my warrenty was void. I paid shipping both ways, but if they decided that it wasn't worth fixing, they would not send it back to me. My extended warrenty said that it started as soon as the computer was registered. The store refused to honor the contract. When the year was up, I contacted them again. By that time I was using an external keyboard and an external monitor because the screen had also broken. The repairs were refused. I was told that the screen broke because I touched it too hard, and the keyboard was broken due to general abuse. The defunct computer now takes up space in a box in my garage. My advice is "stay away from Acer" My Aser Aspire made it about 4 months before the keys started falling off. The other option is to spend 200 pounds on airfares. The expense of getting this repair done is so much that I am now binning this laptop after only 10 months of minimal use and having to buy a new one....needless to say it won't be ACER...If you are thinking ACER....think very, VERY carefully!!! I firstly lost sound, the computer would not recognize that I had any sound installed,it was rebooted,nothing. After a couple of weeks the motherboard died. The housing Dell makes are so weak. They always got crack around the bottom. They are very poor design and the material is so cheap. Therefore, some software don't work with Dell computers.
